Can Kirk Sutherland (Andrew Whyment) win the talent contest in Coronation Street?
(Picture: ITV)

Over the last month viewers have seen Kirk Sutherland (Andrew Whyment) try to achieve his dream of music stardom.

He rediscovered his passion for music after singing at Bertie’s Christening last month, although he upset a few people including Ken Barlow (Bill Roache) after making a dirty joke.

Kirk’s musical talent also impressed the audience during Rovers Got Talent, and now he looks set to follow his dreams.

Is it the last we’ll see of Kirk as he heads out on a musical tour?

Has Kirk Sutherland left Coronation Street?

Kirk is set to leave the street in a taxi this week after writing a song for his partner Beth Tinker (Lisa George).

He is set to go on a music tour after rekindling his love from performing, dating back to his previous performance on the X Factor back in 2010.

After getting excited about his music and finding old video tapes of him performing, Kirk starts to wonder if he should audition for the X Factor.

Actor Andrew Whyment has only left the soap for brief periods since joining as a permanent cast member in 2000.

The good news is that Kirk won’t be gone from the soap for good, and he is set tor return to the street at a later date.

How much success he finds while travelling the country with his guitar remains to be seen.

Harriet and Cain kiss in Emmerdale
(Picture: ITV)

The sparks seem to have been ever so slightly flying between former couple Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) and Harriet Finch (Katherine Dow Blyton) in Emmerdale – which hasn’t escaped the notice of Moira (Natalie J Robb). But does she truly have something to be worried about or will Cain and Harriet just remain friends?

Cain and Harriet not so long ago had a passionate affair which led to Harriet falling for the bad boy mechanic but after a number of months, Cain was forced to accept that his heart lay with Moira and they reunited, leaving Harriet to pick up the pieces of her broken heart.

Since then, she has faced troubles of a different kind from Will Taylor (Dean Andrews), who has been tormenting her since his prison release as she had lived with him as his partner Michelle undercover for a couple of years to gather evidence to put him inside.

With the help of a more reluctant Dawn (Olivia Bromley), Will stalked Harriet and left her feeling terror before he then full on attacked her (with a coffin no less!) in the church. Will has since disappeared and Harriet is trying to get her head around that Dawn had been lying to her.

Tonight, Cain approached Harriet and asked her how she was dealing with things and the pair headed for a more private conversation in the garage with Cain offering his support and Harriet inviting him to open up about his feelings around Lisa’s (Jane Cox) health news.

There was some definite feelings of care between them but whether there’s more to that remains to be seen – will Cain get under Harriet’s skin again, leaving her on the road to heartbreak? And is Moira right to be concerned after seeming uncomfortable with them spending time together?

Actor Dean teased a war between his alter ego Will and Cain in the future – could they be battling for Harriet’s heart?

Will Maya die in Emmerdale?
(Picture: ITV)

Maya Stepney (Louisa Clein) has fallen into David Metcalfe’s (Matthew Wolfenden) well laid trap to catch her with his son Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant) in Emmerdale and it’s a mistake that will finally lead to her being arrested for grooming and abusing her student from the age of 15.

Maya has disappeared and Jacob has been struggling being back at home while David has been at a loss over how best to deal with the situation as it’s clear that he is still under Maya’s manipulative spell. Worried that his son was still in touch with Maya, David asked Ryan Stocks (James Moore) to install software on Jacob’s laptop so that his activity could be tracked.

David was right to be suspicious as Jacob gathered money and passports and then sent Maya a message saying that everything was in place. He will then meet with her at the cricket pavilion but David shows up and finally confronts her over her controlling and despicable behaviour.

Maya looks for a means of escape but she has been reported to the police, who arrive and arrest her in front of a devastated Jacob. As David sees her driven away, Jacob turns on his dad and blames him for ruining his life.

But will David be able to persuade him that he has been the victim of abuse? Or will Jacob stand by her as she faces charges of abuse?

It remains to be seen what happens yet – but don’t expect this to be the last you see of Maya. Both on screen and off, she will remain a toxic part of Jacob’s life after getting so deeply and deliberately into his head.

Viewers hope that he will eventually get justice, with Maya being jailed for her horrific crimes – but there is a long way still to go…

The episode saw Laurie held hostage by Sienna Blake (Anna Passey) who he has been sexually harassing at work.

Sienna is not one to cross and she couldn’t contain her anger when her case against Laurie was dropped by the school board.

Not only that, but she suspected he had been hurting Sinead and wanted to exact revenge.

She knocked him unconscious and tied him up in the school classroom, wanting him to feel as miserable as he had been making both she and Sinead feel.

However she was stopped from seriously harming him by Brody Hudson (Adam Woodward) and Liberty Savage (Jessamy Stoddart) who arrived in the nick of time before she did something that would get her into trouble.

Kathy opens a gay bar in EastEnders
(Picture: BBC)

Senior exec producer Kate Oates has brought in some incredible changes to EastEnders since she’s taken over the reigns, and the latest helps go some way to achieve her dream of a more diverse and inclusive soap as a brand new gay bar opens on Albert Square.

And the new landlady is set to be Kathy Beale.

Kim Fox (Tameka Empson) is shocked to learn on her birthday that Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth) has bought the Albert, which used to be owned by Vincent.

She’s already had to let go of the home they shared which was painful enough, and was seen taking off her wedding ring, so is she ready for this?

Kathy confesses to Ben (Max Bowden) that after learning that her necklace was worth a pretty penny, she sold it and used the profits for the new bar.

It’s not bad news for Kim though, even if it does mean letting go of the past, as Kathy turns to her for advice on the business, and she’s ecstatic to learn Kathy plans to turn it into a gay bar.

Kathy turns to Ben and Tina (Luisa Bradshaw-White) for help with getting it off the ground, and they’re both shocked to realise she has no idea what she’s doing. So Kathy makes Tina an offer she can’t refuse, and the pair deliberate over names for the place.

The soap also recently announced news that it will air its own Gay Pride march episode to coincide with celebrations in London in July. But of course, while being a joyful occasion, it will come hand in hand with all sorts of drama.

James talks to Harry in Hollyoaks
(Picture: Lime Pictures)

Harry Thompson’s (Parry Glasspool) romance with James Nightingale (Gregory Finnegan) has been anything but plain sailing in Hollyoaks, and there might be even more trouble ahead for the pair.

It’s been a tough year for both men, what with James having nearly been poisoned by Hollyoaks’ resident serial killer Breda McQueen (Moya Brady), and Harry attempting to move on from his past, but in spite of their circumstances, the two remain adamant that they’re better off together than apart.

Yes, it didn’t take long for the pair to rekindle their romance upon Harry’s return to the village earlier this year, and although there were a few hiccups along the way — including James rescinding his offer to Harry about moving in with him — it all worked out in the end.

However, it appears that the couples’ troubles aren’t quite in their rear view mirror just yet, as both Romeo (Owen Warner) and Juliet (Niamh Blackshaw) begin to suspect that Harry is cheating on James!

The investigative duo decide to look into their suspicions further, and they end up catching Harry in Kyle Kelly’s (Adam Rickitt) company!

Have Romeo and Juliet jumped to the wrong conclusion? It’s possible. Harry put his all into winning back James at the beginning of the year, so would the young lad really be stupid enough to jeopardise it now that they’re in a good place?

Mind you, Harry has been acting odd as of late, and Romeo and Juliet know for certain that something is awry — but whether or not he’s being unfaithful remains to be seen.

Cleo feels awkward in Hollyoaks
(Picture: Lime Pictures)

It’s been quite some time since Cleo McQueen’s (Nadine Mulkerrin) whirlwind romance with Joel Dexter (Rory Douglas-Speed) came to a shocking end in Hollyoaks, but is a surprise reunion on the cards for the pair?

Yes, the love shared between Cleo and Joel was like nothing Chester had ever seen before. The young lovers had been through a lot together, but it all came to a devastating conclusion when Cleo made the decision to end things with her fiancé after she suffered a heart attack on her wedding day.

A lot has happened since then, and Cleo has managed to get her life back on track. What’s more, she’s even bagged herself a new boyfriend in the form of Mitchell Deveraux (Imran Adams). She couldn’t be happier, which is why things get awkward when Joel pops back into her life this week.

Joel sees Cleo in Hollyoaks
(Picture: Lime Pictures)

Cleo is spending time at the hospital with Mitchell when her ex-fiancé turns up with an injured leg as a result of a bike accident.

In an attempt to ease the awkwardness, the young girl invites Joel to the cinema with her and Mitchell. Shockingly, he accepts the invitation — but just how successful will this trip to the pictures be?

What with Joel and Cleo having had a passionate relationship, it would be totally understandable for Mitchell to get a bit jealous. Of course, the big question here is whether or not he has anything to be worried about?

Will the night out rekindle the spark between Cleo and Joel? A romance like theirs is hard to come by, and as a result, Cleo might not be able to resist giving things another go.

Harriet Finch (Katherine Dow Blyton) has had a rough couple of months in Emmerdale thanks to Dawn (Olivia Bromley) and Will (Dean Andrews), but will there be more heartache ahead for the vicar?

After being robbed several weeks back, it became apparent that Harriet was being stalked. The Emmerdale vicar was on the verge of becoming a recluse after a series of freaky incidents — including her having been locked in her own church — left her scared out of her wits.

She racked her brains to think about who would do this to her, and although many villagers were quick to condemn Dawn, Harriet remained adamant that she had nothing to do with it. However, it was later revealed that the young woman was very much the person responsible. Seeking retribution on behalf of her dad Will — who is very much alive — Dawn was hoping to make Harriet pay for what she did all those years ago.

In spite of her motivations, guilt soon sets in for Dawn. She turns up on Harriet’s doorstep and begs forgiveness, claiming that she doesn’t want to lose her.

If that wasn’t hard enough for Harriet to handle, Will later shows up and explains that Dawn is in a bad way, and he fears that she might relapse.

Will Harriet give in to her better nature and help out the young woman?

The former copper is understandably conflicted. While her religious teachings would no doubt encourage her forgive, it’s the fact that Dawn was like family to her that’s making this such a tough pill to swallow. After all that has transpired, could she really trust Dawn again?

If not, Dawn could be in serious danger.

Carla is terrified in Coronation Street
(Picture: ITV)

Carla Connor (Alison King) is set to star in a standalone Coronation Street episode which will focus on her mental health as she suffers a psychotic episode.

Carla’s friends and family will see her become increasingly erratic after her return to the street, with Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) becoming more and more concerned for the state of her mental health.

But as she begins to suffer a severe episode, her psychosis reaches breaking point as she begins to hallucinate and comes to believe she can see Hayley, Rana and Aidan back from the dead.

Peter will try and rescue her, but will he be able to break through.

Speaking of the moment Carla thinks she sees Hayley, Alison said: ‘She believes she is being watched and followed so in her head she needs to keep on the run, she ends up in the park asking a stranger for help. When she won’t help her she then sees the most beautiful thing that will always help her and that is Hayley in her red coat.

Carla fights her demons in Coronation Street
(Picture: ITV)

‘Then she sees her walking up the fire escape and she follows here – she has an hallucination.’

As Carla follows her up the fire escape she believes she sees Rana too, and is convinced she’s not really dead.

‘She thinks she is seeing Hayley, then she thinks she is seeing Rana and she doesn’t know if Rana is dead or alive,’ Alison explained. ‘Then she thinks she sees Aidan, to her it is real, she is in a very dangerous predicament and unrecognisable to Peter who is desperate to rescue her.’

The scenes themselves were tough to film for the actress, who called on the help of someone from the charity Mind to help ensure her portrayal of Carla’s struggle was as accurate as possible.

‘She suffers from what Carla is suffering and she told me that during those moments of extreme psychosis you are never not yourself but you are just the most terrified version of yourself,’ Alison explained. ‘You are locked in there, when you are spiking in these psychotic episodes there is no way out.

‘You are trapped in there and wherever you are or whoever you are with it is terrifying but you need to be free to go through it and this is what I am trying to portray.’

Rick is going to kill Gary in Coronation Street
(Picture: ITV)

From the moment Gary Windass (Mikey North) crossed Rick Neelan (Greg Wood) his card was marked, and it was only a matter of time before he’d have to face the music in Coronation Street.

That time has come, and it’s actually all thanks to Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien) and her hair-brained scheme to uncover the truth about her brother by ransacking Rick’s office.

Gary is shocked to find his passport in an envelope and he’s even more so when Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) reveals they broke in and retrieved it from Rick.

He knows this means bad news, so when Audrey Roberts (Sue Nicholls) rings him and invites him on the holiday, he is only too happy to accept and get away from the street.

But he doesn’t make it that far – next thing he knows he’s waking up in Rick’s office tied to a radiator, and things are looking very dire indeed.

Rick accuses Gary of getting Sarah to do his dirty work by breaking into his office, which Gary of course denies. But a denial won’t get him anywhere.

Rick makes it clear Gary will die as punishment for his crime against him. When Rick leaves him alone for a moment he manages to get a message off to Sarah warning her that Rick is after her. But will she get it in time?

When Rick returns he’s ready to murder Gary and unties him to do the deed.

Is this it for poor Gary Windass?

Paddy and Chas go for a scan in Emmerdale
(Picture: ITV)

Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter) and Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt) have had an incredibly tough year in Emmerdale, but with Chas pregnant again, the pair begin to worry about the health of their unborn child.

After learning that she was pregnant early last year, Chas had doubts about giving birth, but it didn’t take long for her and Paddy to fall in love with the notion of becoming parents once more. However, their world was turned upside down when they learned that — due to a fatal foetal abnormality — baby Grace wouldn’t survive very long following her birth.

Following a year’s worth of heartache, they were over the moon to learn that Chas had fallen pregnant once more. However, given everything that they went through with Grace, the Woolpack landlady can’t stop worrying that something will go wrong with the pregnancy.

With their 20-week scan looming, she raises her concerns with Paddy. In an attempt to ease her worries, Paddy decides to cancel the scan but — in spite of his good intentions — this decision doesn’t go down too well with Chas, who is fuming when she learns what he’s done.

As the couple struggle to communicate with one another, Cain (Jeff Hordley) sits down with his sister and encourages her to be honest with Paddy — about everything that she’s worried about.

Chas and Paddy re-arrange the scan, but — despite everything they’ve discussed — they both fear for the baby’s health as they arrive at the hospital.

Will the scan bring more heartache for Paddy and Chas?

The pairs’ fears are more than understandable, given that they’ve been to hell and back over this past year, but perhaps they’ll finally get some good news?

Louise drops a bombshell in EastEnders

The Mitchells are by far not ready for the bombshell that frightened teenager Louise Mitchell (Tilly Keeper) is about to drop on them. No wonder she’s worried, Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) isn’t exactly known for his calm and collected reactions to bad news.

After learning that Dennis (Bleu Landau) is behind an online attack against her boys, Karen Taylor (Lorraine Stanley) rushes over to the Mitchells to confront them.

Sharon (Letitia Dean) stands up for her boy, but once alone secretly thinks Dennis is behind the water balloon attack on Chatham and Riley. But when Phil questions her about it she is adamant he’s not involved.

Louise breaks down in EastEnders

As Dennis goes to leave, fuming that he’s been accused, he shoves Louise hard – not knowing (and probably not even caring) that she is secretly still pregnant.

Sharon later admits to Phil that Dennis has hit her in the past, so Phil takes matters into his own hands and sorts out the wayward kid.

Later, Sharon notices Louise is crying and she admits the truth – she didn’t go through with the abortion.

How will Sharon react to the news that she lied? Could she have been put at risk by Dennis’ hard shove?

What will Phil do when he learns his teenager daughter is not only still having a baby, but that Keanu is the dad and will be linked to their family forever?

Kim asks Rhona for help in Emmerdale
(Picture: ITV)

Kim Tate (Claire King) has been desperately trying to make amends with son Jamie (Alexander Lincoln) in Emmerdale but to no avail. However, she’s not giving up just yet, as she has a plan — one that involves her only mate in the village, Rhona Goskirk (Zoe Henry).

Since making her grand return to the village earlier this year, Kim Tate has become a thorn in almost everyone’s side. The Home Farm businesswoman has done everything in her power to make Emmerdale her own — and has ruffled quite a few feathers in the process, including those of Megan Macey (Gaynor Faye) and Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley).

However, viewers soon saw that Kim wasn’t as hard-faced as she made herself out to be, as she’s secretly pining for her son Jamie, who wants absolutely nothing to do with her.

After striking up a friendship with Rhona, Kim has been getting advice from the local vet on how best to handle her estranged son. In spite of their friendship, it’s clear that Kim has an agenda, as — much like Rhona — Jamie is a vet.

With Jamie now in the village, it’s now or never for Kim, so she decides to up the ante by asking Rhona to give Jamie incentive to stay put — before he does a bunk.

If that wasn’t a tall enough task, Kim takes things one step further by trying to persuade the young lad to move into Home Farm.

Easier said than done, right?

While Kim is very much using Rhona to get what she wants, she has also shown herself to be extremely compassionate where Jamie is concerned. Perhaps all of her efforts in making her son stay will prove to him just how much she loves him?

SIENNA WANTS PAYBACK ON LAURIE EMBARGOED UNTIL 14 MAY

Laurie Shelby (Kyle Pryor) has continued to descend to disturbing new lows in Hollyoaks, but he might finally meet his match in Nancy Osborne (Jessica Fox) and Sienna Blake (Anna Passey).

The deputy head teacher has pushed his luck time and again with his inappropriate behaviour towards Sienna. Since arriving at Hollyoaks High, he’s made her feel uncomfortable numerous times, and even tried it on with her during the school camping trip, before claiming he’d mistook her for his wife, Sinead (Stephanie Davis). However, his biggest crime came later when he raped Sinead in a sick act of revenge.

In spite of having evaded justice a number of times, Laurie’s number might finally be up. In the coming episodes, Nancy begins to show an interest in him, and before long she invites him out for a drink.

The two then have that drink — much to Jack Osbourne’s (Jimmy McKenna) dismay — but all is not quite as it seems as, afterwards, she meets up with Sienna at The Dog. It becomes clear that Nancy’s simply being nice to Laurie in an attempt to catch him out and take him down!

However, Jack’s meddling throws a bit of a spanner in the works, as  — unaware of Nancy’s true intentions — he decides to inform Kyle Kelly (Adam Rickitt) about her rendezvous with Laurie.

Kyle’s taken aback, and tells Nancy to stay away from the Hollyoaks High employee. Despite her good intentions, she remains tightlipped about what she’s up to, but when Kyle spots her with Laurie once more, she’s forced to come clean, telling him all about her plan to get the deputy head teacher to admit his wrongdoings on tape!

Laurie has gotten off the hook plenty of times already but, with Nancy and Sienna working together, he could be in deep trouble. That is, if Nancy can pull of her plan before he cops on to what she’s up to!

One to watch: Friday 24th May at 7pm on E4.
