Ben Mitchell (Max Bowden) has proven to be a force of nature since returning to EastEnders earlier this year. From trying to take down Phil (Steve McFadden), to getting caught up in Danny Hardcastle’s (Paul Usher) dodgy dealings, the young lad has manipulated everyone in his path — including best friend Jay Brown (Jamie Borthwick).

Much like all the other members of the Mitchell faaaamily, business is the primary objective for Ben. However, in spite of him getting up to countless acts of mischief during the last two months, he’s also managed to spice up his love life. Where does he get the time, eh?

Last week, viewers saw Ben receive a sexy text from a mysterious man named ‘pecs guy’. While we weren’t given much else, it was clear from the Mitchell lad’s expression that he was pleased with the interaction, so it’s possible that we’ll be seeing more of this guy in the future.

Walford has seen many a mystery over the years. Who Shot Phil? Who Killed Lucy? The latest of course is: Who is pecs guy? A one-night stand perhaps — or something a little more serious? Both Kate Oates and Jon Sen have suggested that Ben’s love life will receive some focus moving forward, so it’s possible that this man of mystery might pop up again in the future.

Could Ben be seeing a Walford regular on the sly? Let’s take a look at a few possibilities in regards to who pecs guy could be.

Gray Atkins

Chantelle is shocked when Gray gives her a key to their new house
(Picture: BBC)

There’s nothing Walford loves more than a scandal, and that’s exactly what would occur if Ben’s mystery lover turned out to be none other than Gray Atkins (Toby Alexander-Smith). Since arriving in the Square with wife Chantelle (Jessica Plummer) and kids Mia and MacKenzie in tow, the young solicitor has been off screen as much as he’s been on, which could be subtext for the character leading a secret double life.

While Gray’s lengthy absences could be due to the pressures that come with being a solicitor, a steamy affair with Ben would also explain why he hasn’t been around much as of late.

It’s certainly plausible. With Mick (Danny Dyer) and Linda (Kellie Bright) being an exception to the rule, happily married couples tend to be doomed when they set foot in Albert Square, and what with the future looking so bright for Gray and Chantelle, their world will inevitably come crashing down very soon — and what better way for this to happen than with a shocking revelation?

Adam Bateman

Yep, there’s definitely something about Adam (Stephen Rahman-Huges). Despite being in Walford for the better part of a year, there’s still so much we don’t know about Honey’s (Emma Barton) beau. Adam has been secretive since the very beginning, and has exhibited worrying characteristics, including controlling behaviour when in Honey’s company.

The dashing dentist has also proven that loyalty isn’t high up his list of priorities, after he recently cheated on Honey with Habiba (Rukku Nahar). With Adam’s brilliant characterisation having made him rather hard to read, it would be entirely believable for him to turn out to be Ben’s mystery lover.

Keanu Taylor

Ben and Keanu (Danny Walters) have been feuding like crazy since the Mitchell lad’s return to Walford, but you know what they say about love and hate, eh? It’s not like Ben would let the little matter of his sister Louise (Tilly Keeper) being head over heels for the young mechanic get in his way, as family loyalty isn’t really one of his strong suits.

What’s more, Keanu seems to have a thing for members of the Mitchell clan, so perhaps he is pecs guy after all. He certainly fits the description, that’s for sure.

Josh Hemmings

Before the mysterious pecs guy, the last man to win Ben’s affections in Walford was Luke Browning (Adam Astill). Of course, that all went belly-up when Luke got violent, and Ben discovered that he was James Willmott-Brown’s (William Boyd) son. While most of the Willmott-Brown clan had their own agendas, Luke’s younger brother Josh (Eddie Eyre) — who fell for Lauren Branning (Jacqueline Jossa) — was one of the good guys.

With Ben having found himself involved in plenty of dodgy business since returning to Walford, perhaps he decided to invest in some well-off allies — one of which could be Josh. A stretch perhaps, but Josh is not only well off, he also fits the ‘pecs guy’ moniker more than any of the others on this list!

A random one-night stand

While we love nothing more than a good old-fashioned mystery, it’s possible that we’re grasping at straws in regards to pecs guy’s identity, as his encounter with Ben might’ve been nothing more than a fleeting one night stand.

If this does prove to be the case, then it’s unlikely we’ll hear of him again — but at least we know that that Ben is finding the time for a bit of fun between schemes!

Ted Murray

We joke we joke! Mind you, Ted (Christopher Timothy) has been awful chipper as of late — and both him and Ben returned to the Square around the same time. Make of that what you will!

Coronation Street’s Sally Dynevor won’t be next to quit the cobbles as she insists cast are ‘really happy’ with new boss

Coronation Street star Sally Dynevor has hit back at claims the cast are unhappy with new boss Iain MacLeod, who joined the soap earlier this year.

Recent weeks have seen a number of high profile exits confirmed for the cobbles, with the likes of Lucy Fallon (Bethany Platt), Kym Marsh (Michelle Connor) and Faye Brookes (Kate Connor) among the stars to leave the ITV soap.

During today’s Lorraine, the host – a notoriously avid Corrie fan – made a desperate plea to the Sally Metcalfe star to never leave.

‘Can you just nail your feet to the floor?’ she begged.

Thankfully, Lorraine needn’t have worried.

‘I am so happy!’ assured Sal. ‘Everyone keeps saying about all these things in the media and it’s so not true.

‘Everyone’s really happy I don’t know where this story has come from. I’m nailing my feet to the floor, I’m staying – if that’s ok?’

Phew.

Sally’s statement echoes comments made by Kym last week, who despite being among those to be bowing out of Coronation Street insisted the soap will continue to thrive.

‘Whichever actors are involved in it, Coronation Street will continue to be a big, brilliant show,’ she told OK! Magazine.

‘There’s no “crisis”. It’s just natural that a show like Corrie will have comings and goings – just like you would on any real-life street in the UK!

‘I personally can’t wait to see which new faces might be turning up on the cobbles.’

There’s been a denial of crisis talks from Metro.co.uk’s source close to the show, who told us: ‘There aren’t nor have there been any crisis talks.’

Coronation Street continues tonight at 7.30pm on ITV while Lorraine airs weekdays at 8.30am on the same channel.

Fresh from being caught up in an armed robbery in Coronation Street, Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) will next week find himself at the centre of another life or death situation when he could accidentally kill a client who runs away without paying.

When he picks up a couple of lads who then dart from the vehicle to dodge the fare, he grabs the baseball bat he has been keeping for safety since his recent ordeal. He gaves chase to the two lads across the street but he is left horrified when one of them ends up in the path of a car which hits him and knocks him to the ground.

But is he dead and will Steve find himself responsible?

Fresh pictures have been revealed by ITV and accompanied by the information: ‘Steve is edgy after the robbery, but Tracy insists he goes back out driving. But when three lads refuse to pay their fare, Steve whips out a baseball bat!

‘The lads do a runner with Steve in hot pursuit until one of them is hit by a car! Will Steve be in serious trouble?’

It remains to be revealed what the fate of the newcomer is but will it give Steve a valuable wake up call?

Other drama hinted at on the cobbles are relationship struggles between Toyah Battersby (Georgia Taylor) and Imran Habeeb (Charlie de Melo) and a shock kiss for David Platt (Jack P Shepherd) when Natalie plants a smacker on him.

Who is Kate Oates and how long has she been a producer for EastEnders?

EastEnders was given the TV Bafta award for continuing drama last night, and Kate Oates was one of the people to be singled out for thanks during the acceptance speech.

The soap was able to beat rival soaps Casualty, Coronation Street and Hollyoaks to claim the award, after not even being nominated during last year’s event.

A lot of the newly-found success has been attributed to Kate’s arrival at the end of last year, as she joined BBC to overlook EastEnders, Casualty and Holby City as the senior executive producer.

Here is everything that you need to know about Kate Oates and why she has been such a big success.

Who is Kate Oates?

Kate Oates is a TV producer from Nottingham, who began her career as a researcher and editorial assistant for Germaine Greer.

Her first major TV role came when she was employed as a script editor for Crossroads, and then in 2003 she joined The Archers to become a producer.

She then moved back to TV and became a script editor for Emmerdale in 2012 and worked on numerous big storylines that formed part of the celebrations for the soap’s fortieth anniversary.

Kate then became an assistant producer at ITV’s Coronation Street for a year before moving back to Emmerdale in 2013, this time as a series producer.

She then resigned from the role in December 2015 and returned to Coronation Street as the series producer, which gradually led to a rise in ratings and it saw some of their bigest storylines receive positive reactions from both viewers and critics.

In April 2018 Kate announced that she would be leaving Coronation Street, and her new role as senior executive producer at the BBC was revealed in August.

How long has Kate Oates been a producer for EastEnders?

She began her role at the BBC in late 2018, working alongside EastEnder’s previous executive producer John Yorke to ensure a smooth transition.

Her first credited episode as senior executive producer wasn’t until 21 February 2019, and in April 2019 she was announced as the new Head of Continuing Drama at the BBC.

This means that now she also overlooks Doctors, River City and Pobol y Cwm.

(Picture: ITV)

It looks like there’s heartbreak on the horizon for Shona Ramsey (Julia Goulding) as David Platt (Jack P Shepherd) is set to share a kiss with mischievous hairdresser Natalie Watkins (Cassie Bradley) in Coronation Street.

But while it’s clear that Natalie instigates the kiss, will Nick Tilsley’s (Ben Price) warning to David that he has to keep Natalie sweet in order for her to keep their secret about Audrey Roberts’ (Sue Nicholls) money theft safe drive him to cheat?

David and Natalie have been getting on surprisingly well since she started working at the barbers but Nick is constantly wary of her as she could blow the truth about the cash he stole from his gran at any time.

As she makes her presence felt, Nick orders David to do anything it takes to keep her sweet so that she doesn’t blab. But how far is David prepared to go – will he really cheat on Shona and put his whole engagement in jeopardy?

New pictures of the kiss have been revealed by ITV, with captions reading: ‘With the police breathing down their necks, Nick tells David he needs to keep Natalie sweet. But, how will David react when Natalie kisses him?

‘Later, Natalie’s date takes a dim view of David spying on them. We can only imagine what Shona’s going to say about all this! How much trouble is David in now?’

It seems like the David and Shona wedding may be doomed before it even gets close…

Mitch Baker (Roger Griffiths) is devastated
(Picture: BBC)

EastEnders is set to hit fans with upsetting scenes this week as a tragic death airs but is Karen Taylor (Lorraine Stanley) involved as Dinah Baker (Anjela Lauren Smith) takes her own life later in the week? After Karen was left worried by Dinah’s intentions as her depression over how her illness was impacting young Bailey (Kara-Leah Fernandes), Karen goes all out to try and prove to Dinah that she can live with more comfort and things are worth fighting for?

Karen – along with Keegan (Zack Morris) and Mitch (Derek Griffiths) – have been concerned that Bailey is taking on too much by caring for her mum but she is absolutely against Dinah from going into a home, even as her MS worsens.

Karen is struck by an idea as she sees how miserable Dinah is and she suggests that she meets up with a patient in a similar situation so that they might be able to relate and support one another, knowing that they aren’t alone.

Dinah reluctantly agrees but Karen is left further worried when she sees that Dinah has been filling out birthday cards for Bailey’s future, when she won’t be around. She promises to stop doing it until she has met with the other patient but sadly nothing will be set to change Dinah’s life as later in the week, Karen is forced to deliver the sad news to a rocked Mitch that Dinah has died.

The question is – has Dinah managed to persuade Karen to assist her in taking her own life and, if so, could Karen be left facing prison time?

Whatever happens, the death will come as a mighty blow to both Mitch and Bailey – can they get the support they will need at this harrowing time? And can Mitch ever forgive Karen for her role in Dinah’s last moments, whatever that may be?

EastEnders continues on Monday 13th May at 8pm on BBC One.

Why have the Hollyoaks titles and theme tune changed?

Hollyoaks titles with HOllyoaks cast members
The Hollyoaks titles and theme tune have changed – but why? (Picture: Lime Pictures)

Hollyoaks’ opening titles are getting a makeover starting from tonight’s episode, meaning a whole new look for the soap.

It is the first time that the credits have been given a makeover in three years, after the fairground-themed credits were introduced in 2016.

Typically the Hollyoaks openings have featured many of the main characters, usually looking into the camera with a smile and interacting with various props.

Fans have become used to the upbeat music and colourful design of the current intro, so why is it changing?

Why have the Hollyoaks opening titles changed?

It won’t be the first time that the credits have been given a makeover and it is usually done to give the soap a fresh look and feel.

Along with the big updates, there are usually various tweaks at different points in the year to add and remove different characters.

Hollyoaks executive producer Bryan Kirkwood has said that the new opening credits are ‘just the right level of camp’ and added that he couldn’t wait to see them.

Bryan told Metro.co.uk: ‘We have a brand new refresh to the titles coming up which I know the fans will love. We are constantly listening to what the fans like and enjoy and what they want to see more or less of.

One of the biggest transformations for the Hollyoaks opening titles was in February 2007 when they received a complete overhaul,  with the characters posing and looking at the camera, and a faster version of the theme song was added as well.

In December 2008 it received another update with a new background and different characters appearing, which was then followed by another change in 2010 with a new, slower theme tune.

The credits the remained mostly the same, other than the usual character updates, until September 2016 when a new colourful opening was launched and the characters around the set with a fairground theme.

Actress Jane Cox is leaving after more than two decades on Emmerdale (Picture: ITV)

Lisa Dingle (Jane Cox) is leaving Emmerdale in a storyline sure to bring tears to her fans’ eyes.

The character has been a part of the popular soap for over two decades and first appeared on TV screens in 1996.

Fans have been preparing for this moment ever since Charity (Emma Atkins) went to see Lisa in Scotland and found out that she has a terminal heart condition.

The rest of the family have thus far been kept in the dark, apart from her husband Zak (Steve Halliwell). That is, until now.

Tonight, in an emotional scene, Lisa will sit the family down and explain that she doesn’t have much time left. The tragic news will come as a shock to them all, but above all to her daughter Belle (Eden Taylor-Draper) who had no idea that her mother is going to die.

Why is Jane Cox leaving Emmerdale?

The 67-year-old English actress is yet to reveal why she is leaving the show and has only said that she ‘will miss’ her character.

‘Lisa is so close to my heart as she’s been such a huge part of my life for the past more than 23 years,’ Jane said in a statement.

‘So I know I will shed more than a few tears when it comes to filming her final scenes.

‘But I’m really looking forward to my return to the show to tell this story and to give the character of Lisa a deserving farewell.

‘I will miss her.’

When does Lisa Dingle die in Emmerdale?

There’s still no hint as to which episode will be Lisa Dingle’s last Emmerdale outing.

However, it’s anticipated it will be quite soon and, most likely, a real tear-jerker.

Best stock up on tissues now.

Emmerdale airs tonight on ITV1 at 7pm and 8pm.

(Picture: ITV)

Traumatised Victoria Barton (Isabel Hodgins) has told her brother Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) that she wants to ensure that the man who raped her is caught and brought to justice in Emmerdale to stop him ever harming another woman – and he has made it his mission to ensure that justice is done.

Pregnant Victoria is struggling to come to terms with her terrifying and violent ordeal which saw her invite Lee into her home before he then forced himself on her in the place where she should have felt safest. She has since discovered that she is carrying her attacker’s baby and Robert has been at a loss over how best to support his sister, with Diane (Elizabeth Estensen) encouraging him to take things at Victoria’s own pace.

Eventually, they sat down and talked and Robert asked her what she wanted to do, which is when she insisted that she wanted to get justice. Determined, Robert held Victoria close and assured her that they would get the best lawyer and he promised to hand deliver her attacker to the police himself if he had to.

As Victoria took comfort from his support, Robert will do everything he can not to let her down. And this means that he and Aaron (Danny Miller) will step back from their surrogacy plans – especially with the Dingles also being rocked by the news that Lisa (Jane Cox) is going to die.

Both Victoria and Lisa will need all of the support they can get from their loved ones in the harrowing weeks ahead.

Lisa Dingle (Jane Cox) and Zak Dingle (Steve Halliwell) return to give the family the bad news
(Picture: ITV)

There wasn’t a dry eye in the Dingle household – or across the nation – as Emmerdale aired emotional scenes tonight which saw Lisa Dingle (Jane Cox) face the music and admit to her family that she is going to die due to a terminal heart condition.

Viewers first learned the tragic prognosis for the Dales stalwart when she confided in Charity (Emma Atkins) a few weeks ago but tonight, Belle (Eden Taylor Draper) and the rest of the clan were let in on the harrowing secret. And it was a tough one to take.

The Dingles had laid out a party in anticipation of Lisa and husband Zak (Steve Halliwell) returning home from Scotland but when Charity quickly became upset due to the enormity of the secret hanging over her, Belle wanted to know what was going on.

Lisa relented and admitted that she hasn’t got long to live and the news left Belle broken. She went from accusing her mum of giving up on her life to blaming Charity for not telling her but when her range of understandable emotions calmed and she was left alone with her parents, she cuddled up to her beloved mum.

As Lisa assured her she wasn’t going anywhere yet, Belle told her there’s nowhere she’d rather be than in her arms and Lisa told her she loved her more than anything in the world. With Zak by their side, they were united as a family, trying hard not to think about the tragic inevitably that they will soon be torn apart forever.

And tomorrow, it becomes too much for Zak as reality hits home and he disappears…

Louise Mitchell reveals she has kept her baby in EastEnders
(Picture: BBC)

Louise Mitchell (Tilly Keeper) has had a rough day as pushy Sharon (Letitia Dean) took her to the clinic to terminate her pregnancy, knowing deep down that if her own affair with Keany Taylor (Danny Walters) came out in EastEnders, it would make things more complicated than ever.

Louise learned that she was carrying Keanu’s baby but also discovered that he had been paid by Phil to keep her close for protection. Disgusted to believe that her relationship was a sham, Louise dumped Keanu on the spot and later admitted her baby news to a shocked Sharon, who offered to pay for an abortion.

With Keanu realising that he likes Louise for real, Phil (Steve McFadden) decided that he would try and unite the pair, oblivious to the fact that Sharon was taking Louise to the clinic. Sharon soon realised that Louise seemed unsure and told her she could have more time to think about it but it seemed that Louise was prepared to go through with it.

After she left the clinic, Sharon was under the impression that Louise had seen the procedure through but they arrived home to find Keanu there, with Phil saying that he and Louise needed to talk. Sharon said now was not the time and an upset Louise fled the house before bumping into Lola Pearce (Danielle Harold).

Lola could see how upset she was and Louise admitted that she was still pregnant – but didn’t want anyone to find out.

How long will she keep Keanu in the dark? And what will Sharon say when she finds out?

Carla is broken in Coronation Street
(Picture: ITV)

Carla Connor (Alison King) is in a darker place than ever and, refusing to trust anyone in Coronation Street, the much loved character fell to pieces after seeking refuge at Roy Cropper’s (David Neilson)’ home. Believing that Kate (Faye Brookes) is hiding an alive Rana with her, Carla is convinced that everyone is out to get her as she is consumed by her psychosis.

After being out looking for her, Roy was surprised to find a fragile Carla at his flat and she told him that hewas the only one that she could trust. After asking about Aidan, she rang alarm bells in Roy’s mind and he quickly saw that all was far from well.

As he tried to calm Carla down, there was no getting through to her and, ill equipped to be of any help to her, Roy arranged for an ambulance to come against Carla’s wishes. He insisted apologetically that she needed help and he was only doing what was best for her but as Carla headed downstairs to escape, a desperate Johnny (Richard Hawley) banged on the door as an ambulance pulled up.

Carla begged Roy not to open the door and she ordered Johnny to stay away from her when he edged closer. But as Carla cowered in the corner as paramedics came to try and sedate her and take her to hospital, she threw Roy a look of hate and told him that she would never forgive him.

While Roy has undoubtedly done the right thing for Carla’s welfare, the words will have left him devastated.

But as Carla is admitted to hospital for treatment, will she get the help she needs?

She’s so far kept it to herself because she doesn’t think anyone will believe her, which has been heartbreaking to watch. Plus he has been gaslighting her into believing it’s her own fault, while also making it clear no one would believe her, and assuring her he wouldn’t do it again.
