Coronation Street star Mikey North reveals he did his own stunt in history-making scene

Coronation Street star Mikey North has revealed he did his own stunt in a history-making scene.

Gary Windass is hit by a car in upcoming scenes, as — after revealing the truth to Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien) about Rick Neelan’s (Greg Wood) demise — a chase along the cobbles ensues.

With Sarah in danger as a car comes hurtling towards her, Gary pushes her out of the way and ends up getting knocked down.

The scene in question is history making, as its the world’s first stunt done in a post-Covid-19 world, with social distancing implemented.

In order to make the scene looks as seamless as possible — as cast members Mikey and Tina weren’t allowed to touch one another — a dummy was utilised.

Speaking about the stunt, Mikey told Metro.co.uk: ‘It’s not how you’d want to do it – when you are trying to act with a dummy version of Tina it’s not as good as the real thing.

‘But we are getting used to it now, trying to keep the distance is not easy and scenes when you are being pulled from a wreckage it’s pretty tricky, but as I say it’s nice to be back and having the opportunity to work again.’

Speaking of opportunities, Mikey was allowed to do his own stunt, and he even ended up on the bonnet of the car!

He said: ‘The stunt guy showed me what to do and it was quite wet on the bonnet and I thought I was going to lose my grip and probably get hit by the car. Luckily I got away with it somehow, but it was pretty nerve-wracking first take. The car was going at full speed!

‘It’s always nice to get involved and do that and I always asked to do my own stuff if I can. I enjoy, it, it is one of the best parts of the job for me. Luckily they let me do it. I was on the bonnet of the car and yeah it was good fun. I enjoy getting bashed about!’

Yasmeen Nazir’s (Shelley King) trial is postponed in Coronation Street in the wake of her sudden heart attack.

Yasmeen is facing the prospect of a life behind bars for attacking Geoff (Ian Bartholomew), but with her having pleaded not guilty, a trial is due to take place.

However, with Geoff having got in touch with her — and thus the manipulation having started once more — she’s been under a lot of pressure as of late, and the visit from Elaine (Paula Wilcox) has confused her all the more.

Yasmeen suffers a terrifying heart attack this week ahead of her trial, and as she recovers in hospital, an emotional Alya (Sair Khan) seemingly sits by her gran’s side.

She later reveals what’s happened to Yasmeen — reiterating that she’s going to be fine — before confirming that the trial has, in fact, been postponed.

Meanwhile, Elaine is upset when she learns of Yasmeen’s heart attack, and therefore rings Alya and informs her that she will be a witness against Geoff.

Alya is touched, but something seemingly changes Elaine’s mind, as Alya is forced to encourage her to stay put later in the week.

The question is: will the trial go ahead this time?

And if so, will Elaine give evidence against Geoff?

Will he finally get his comeuppance?

One to watch: Wednesday 29 July at 7:30pm on ITV.

Jacqueline Jossa has delighted EastEnders fans with the biggest hint yet that she is lining up a potential return to the soap as she has revealed that she would definitely go back and has recalled her love for the programme.

Jacqueline, who won the most recent series of I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here!, left her role as Lauren Branning in a storyline that saw her sister Abi die in a tragic accident on the Queen Vic roof.

But now that Lauren’s ex Peter Beale (Dayle Hudson) is back on the Square – along with family members like Jack and Max (Scott Maslen and Jake Wood) – there are plenty of connections that could lead to a big return storyline.

While there are no official plans on the table, Jacqueline said in an Instagram Q&A that she’d be up for it.

She grinned: ‘Maybe one day. I loved my time on the show. I absolutely love EastEnders, love the people, the production, and I absolutely love Lauren Branning with all my heart.’

Since departing the show, Jacqueline has also launched her own fashion range following her success in the jungle.

She recently hit the headlines again as her turbulent relationship with Dan Osbourne saw him admit that he would finish with her if she ever cheated on him.

It came days after he came clean that he had cheated on her but Jacqueline has forgiven him and recently spoke out in support of him.

Kelvin Fletcher has paid a visit to the Emmerdale set and, after sharing with his followers his feeling of nostalgia on being back at the place where he has spent most of his career, there was a flurry of excitement that an Andy Sugden return might be on the cards.

Kelvin left the role after two decades in a storyline that saw Andy go on the run after he was accused of trying to kill Lawrence White.

However the door is now open for a return as it’s well known that Lachlan was the true culprit – but sadly, it doesn’t sound like it will be happening in the near future.

In his Instagram Stories, he shared a wistful video of being back on his old stomping ground, saying: ‘It’s been years, it’s been years since I was here.

‘Before you all get excited, sadly it’s not a return to Emmerdale. I’m just here doing some filming for ITV. But either way, I have got goosebumps.’

Ah, there’s always next time!

Kelvin has never ruled out a return to the show that made him a household name – having described the ‘morale and passion’ on set.

But he has been busy since leaving the soap – most notably by winning Strictly Come Dancing with some impressive moves.

Coronation Street star Joe Duttine doesn’t want on screen romance with real fiancee Sally Carman

Coronation Street star Joe Duttine has ruled out the possibility of his on-screen character Tim Metcalfe getting it together with his real fiancee’s alter ego, Abi Franklin.

Tim and Sally Carman’s mechanic character have crossed paths in the show with Abi having recently lived with him and Sally but, while from a technical point of sense it would allow for romantic scenes as the actors live together in real life, Joe doesn’t reckon it would be practical.

He told Inside Soap: ‘That’s the last thing me and Sally want! It would be a disaster. We would make each other laugh all the time, we wouldn’t be able to concentrate – and it’d be a little too close to home, wouldn’t it?

‘We don’t want that as it’s nice to have a life away from the Street. We met at Corrie and that’s always going to be special for us, but we don’t want to act it out on screen!’

Joe and Sally recently announced their engagement during lockdown, with Joe quipping: ‘She said yes everyone, convid 19 can f**k off…’ (He later jokingly corrected his spelling of COVID-19)

Meanwhile, both actors are as busy as ever as filming resumes for the Weatherfield based show.

Tim is currently stuck between wife Sally (that’s fictional Sally played by friend Sally not fiancee Sally) and his menacing and manipulative dad Geoff (Ian Bartholomew).

Meanwhile, Abi is trying to get her head around saying goodbye to the twins but this is set to leave her with a dark path ahead as she struggles with the enormity of it all.

Luckily for Joe and Sally, both of their alter egos are a bit too busy for a fling right now!

Danny Miller in Emmerdale celebrates charity walk
(Picture Danny Miller/Instagram)

An overwhelmed Danny Miller has thanked fans and supporters for their donations and encouragement after he completed his walk to Anfield ahead of Liverpool’s championship win – raising over £30,000 for his charity Once Upon A Smile in the process.

After the massive win which followed his arduous walk, he tweeted: ‘Swollen eyes is my biggest injury. Just cried and cried last night at so many of your beautiful support, donations and generosity.’

He had previously admitted that a figure of £20,000 had been his dream goal but the donations far surpassed that as he walked 40 miles from his home in Manchester to Anfield where he then watched the match.

The soap actor documented his walk on his Instagram Stories, during which he said he would love to make it to £30,000 in donations to the charity, which provides emotional and practical support for bereaved families.

And, at the time of writing, the total is up to £30,626.

Explaining his reasons behind the walk on the JustGiving page, he wrote: I have waited years to be there when Liverpool finally lift the premier league and now I can’t even see that in person.

But I’ll get as close as I can with the help and support from my beloved friends and followers.

I want to combine two thinks I’ve had taken away from me during COVID-19 – which is the access to our fantastic charity HQ and my second love of my seat at Anfield.

So I decided to add them together and try and earn some vital funds for my beloved charity and help us on the road back to some normality. (sic).’

Amazing work, Danny – now for a well deserved rest!

Coronation Street spoilers: Newcomer is determined to split Peter Barlow and Carla Connor

Carla and Peter in Coronation Street
(Picture: ITV)

She may already be causing a stir since arriving on Coronation Street but being a headache to killer Gary Windass is one thing – splitting up power couple Carla Connor (Alison King) and Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) is quite another!

However, newcomer Kel Allen is hungry for some controversy and reckons her maneater character Laura Neelan could cause just the right amount of chaos by making a play for Peter!

She told Metro.co.uk: ‘I think if I was to choose any job for Laura, she would be behind that bar pulling pints, taking tips and popping them in her bra. She’s that kind of girl isn’t she?

‘She’d be swapping numbers with whoever comes through the door, if she knows what’s in the bank account. She’s for the money, she’s for an easy life. So that’s what I love about her. She’s such a character that she’s so far from who I am as a person, that’s why she’s great to play.

‘I could definitely see her as a barmaid or failing that, I don’t think she’d be too great at sewing knickers or anything but yeah. This could really rock the boat, I know there’s a big fan following, being a fan myself, for Carla and Peter, so I think just to rock that boat and just stir it up a bit, to go for a bit of Peter.

Gary and Laura in Coronation Street
(Picture: ITV)

‘She can go around all the Barlows, try them all out! Carla and Laura, I could only imagine. There would be so many fireworks. It would be nice to see that now on the street a bit more with Laura, stirring the pot like she does. She creates chaos wherever she goes!’

We’re not so sure the Carla and Peter fanbase would agree with that but Peter should be able to rest easy for now, as Laura currently has designs on Adam (Sam Robertson).

Kel laughed: ‘I think Laura fancies Adam, he’s a good looking chap isn’t he, it’s hard to have to flirt with him but someone’s got to. I think she’s just drawn to a good looking man.

‘Adam has come along and he’s showing an interest in her, she thinks all her Christmasses have come at once, every bucket list has been ticked with him, this good looking chap is showing all this interest in her.

‘I’m not she thinks there’s a relationship, maybe a good friendship, I think she just wants to jump into bed with him, that’s what she’s about, Laura.’

Yasmeen Nazir (Shelley King) could have found her saviour in Geoff Metcalfe’s (Ian Bartholomew) ex Elaine (Paula Wilcox) in Coronation Street, who promises Alya (Sair Khan) that she’ll give evidence in court.

Yasmeen was left in shock when she received a visit from a woman she believed to be from a charity, only to discover that it was, in fact, Elaine — one of Geoff’s exes.

Elaine revealed that she had been abused by Geoff too, and therefore knows what Yasmeen is going through.

The rest of the week proved to be a tough one for Yasmeen, as she struggled to come to terms with such a revelation, and — with stress piling on — she suffers a devastating heart attack.

Elaine’s saddened to hear of what’s happened to Yasmeen, and she’s all the more saddened when she learns that Tim (Joe Duttine) has taken his dad’s side in all of this.

Elaine in Coronation Street
(Picture: ITV)

Determined to offer support and help out, she calls Alya and confirms that she’s prepared to give evidence against Geoff, in addition to doing whatever else she can to help Yasmeen.

Alya’s overcome with emotion and gratitude following Elaine’s revelation, but later in the week, they meet up in Speed Daal once more, only this time Alya is left begging Elaine to stay put, as she’s their only hope of securing Yasmeen’s freedom.

What has happened to make Elaine think twice?

What’s more, will she go through with her promise and thus give evidence?

If so, she could prove to be Yasmeen’s saviour!

Emmerdale spoilers: What’s next for Malone, Cain, Moira and Jamie?

$
0
0
Emmerdale - Malone, Cain Dingle, Moira Dingle and Jamie Tate
(Pictures: ITV)

It’s safe to say Emmerdale is currently airing some superb storylines packed full with drama. Three of these that have kept us entertained are: Malone’s (Mark Womack) affair with Harriet Finch (Katherine Dow Blyton), Moira’s (Natalie J Robb) recovery from the hit and run, and Andrea’s (Anna Nightingale) desperation to win Jamie Tate (Alexander Lincoln) back after his affair.

One thing we’ve noticed about these three stories is how they’re now beginning to tie together, and when one story is told in an episode, it usually has some sort of effect on another character who is involved in a different chain of events.

Despite the latest social distancing rules that meant our favourite soaps have had to turn a lot of their narratives around to comply with the government guidelines, these three plots have been running parallel with each other and have now intertwined with very minimal effects due to the new measures.

We’ve been taking an in-depth look into these latest occurrences in the village, and what can possibly come next for the characters involved…

DI Malone

Malone in Emmerdale
Malone isn’t one to be messed with (Picture: ITV)

Malone hasn’t been in the village for long, but already he’s made quite a big impression, not to mention he’s been having an affair with Harriet! Right now Cain (Jeff Hordley) is convinced Malone was responsible for Moira’s hospitalisation after she was hit by a car and there isn’t a lot of evidence to prove that Malone didn’t do it, so could this be the catalyst to put the dodgy copper behind bars?

Coming up, Malone and Will’s (Dean Andrews) confrontation over some drugs escalates and in the aftermath, a lifeless body lies on the floor. If the body is Malone’s and after Cain’s threat promising vengeance on Malone, could Harriet assume he was the culprit?

Viewers of course know it was Jamie Tate that hit Moira after driving too fast down a country lane (there’s speed limits for a reason, Jamie!), so when the truth is eventually revealed and Malone learns Jamie let him take the rap for something he caused, how much danger will Jamie be in?

Cain and Moira

Emmerdale Cain and Moira
Cain stays by Moira’s bedside (Picture: ITV)

Cain Dingle is a master criminal but we always see a different side to him when he’s been with Moira, even more so when he declared his love for her while she was in a hospital bed! Right now given the lack of evidence that Jamie was behind the wheel of the car that hit the person Cain loved, Cain is determined to get revenge on Malone. But when the truth is revealed, will Cain want revenge on Jamie too? This is Cain we’re talking about so the answer is probably going to be a yes!

As Moira recovers in hospital, we’re all apprehensively waiting to discover just how much she remembers about what happened moments before she was knocked over. Will she struggle to remember all of the evening? Based on her threat from Malone beforehand, could she instinctively put the two situations together and convince herself it was him?

Jamie Tate

Jamie isn’t having a particularly easy time right now. Aside from trying to end his relationship with Andrea after his affair, he is fairly overcome with worry after his hit and run ordeal. If Moira fails to remember the details about being hit, there is no proof that Jamie was involved. However, something tells us Jamie won’t be able to deal with the guilt of hitting someone, speeding, and keeping it all a secret, which means the truth will out at anytime.

It’s almost inevitable that when the villagers discover Jamie was the person who put Moira in hospital, he will have to confront Cain. But will Jamie have two villains on his back, in the form of Malone also?

There’s a lot we can talk about when it comes to the latest goings on for these characters, and given Kim (Claire King) now knowing her son’s carelessness was the reason for Moira’s injuries, she has insisted they clean up the evidence. If Kim learns about Cain’s thoughts on Malone, could the two of them team up to frame him and subsequently get Jamie off the hook?

Connecting three of the shows main storylines together is a genius idea, it has allowed for an even more entertaining watch and as we wait to see what happens with these troubled and complicated characters, it’s clear the drama is very much far from over…

EastEnders to air unforgettable Christmas showdown as Max and Stacey’s affair is exposed

When you think about classic EastEnders Christmas episodes that will forever stay in our memory, two instantly spring to mind.

No, not the one where everyone danced outside or when Pauline Fowler lay down in the snow and died.

You’d either be thinking of the most watched episode of all time, Den and Angie’s big divorce showdown or the visit to Albert Square that the BBC are about to treat us to all over again.

Yep, that infamous videotape that led to all kinda of awkward in the Branning living room (not to mention a GIF which has endless uses) is the latest iconic episode that will be shown and we can’t wait.

Heralded almost unanimously as one of the show’s strongest episodes, the Christmas Day brings about the reveal of a long running affair between Stacey and Max Branning (Lacey Turner and Jake Wood).

With Lauren (Madeline Duggan) having come across the tape which accidentally recorded a sex session between Max and his son’s wife, she popped it under the tree.

As luck would have it, it was the busiest and most packed the house had ever been when it was played – and Bradley (Charlie Clements) and Tanya (Jo Joyner) were left to deal with the fallout as their relationships fell apart and the betrayal came to light.

The showdown saw slanging matches, seriously barbed insults, slaps, meltdowns and even a tumble down the stairs – the classic hallmarks of a Christmas episode in Walford.

Reflecting on the major episode, Jake reflected: ‘It was a perfect storm. The Max and Stacey affair was played out all during that year. People took to those characters and that situation and the way it was revealed with a DVD and all the family watching… even watching it now it was very uncomfortable.

‘You really feel like you’re in that room with those characters and suffering the embarrassment and the awkwardness. And it’s just beautifully written and beautifully directed. Simon Ashdown wrote the episode. So yeah it was an amazing experience.

‘EastEnders Christmas episodes are part of British life. And to be a part of those is a great privilege and I look back on those episodes with great fondness.’

The chemistry between Max and Stacey still continues to be revisited from time to time to this very day – which goes to show the lasting legacy of this particular episode.

It will air on BBC One at 7.30pm on Tuesday 4 August.

Will and Malone fight in Emmerdale
(Picture: ITV)

Blood is set to be shed in some seriously intense Emmerdale scenes tonight – but as a body lies lifeless on the ground by the time the credits roll, who has been left to die? And has someone just become a killer?

DI Malone (Mark Womack) refuses to leave the village behind as he is determined to have Harriet Finch (Katherine Dow Blyton) to himself – however, she is committed to marrying Will Taylor (Dean Andrews).

The didn’t stop her ‘scratching the itch’ as she puts it with Malone as they enjoyed a passionate encounter or two. But now Harriet wants the corrupt cop gone from the village for good.

He confronts her and tells her that he loves her and he has the money for them to go away together and start a new life.

But when Harriet makes it clear that her life is in the village with Will, Malone darkens and sets to get Will out of the picture.

Planting drugs in a car in the garage, Malone is confronted by Will who tells him that he has no control over him anymore – he won’t go to prison for anyone.

Malone aggressively tells him that he wouldn’t be so confident in that and a huge row erupts, with Will insisting that he has gone straight for good while Malone taunts him about what a loser he has become.

The argument gets very nasty and person and before long, things get heated, with a heavy blow being struck.

But who collapses to the ground, leaving someone wondering if they now have a dead body to clear up?

Emmerdale viewers will have to tune in on Friday 24 July at 7pm on ITV to find out whose life hangs in the balance.

Hollyoaks spoilers: Soap will revisit Lisa Hunter’s self harm storyline as Gemma Atkinson returns

Hollyoaks is set to revisit the harrowing saga of schoolgirl Lisa Hunter’s (Gemma Atkinson) self harm ordeal as part of its Hollyoaks@25 season in the run up to the show’s big anniversary.

A week of episodes – presented by Ruby O’Donnell (Peri) and Haiesha Mistry (Yasmine), who were central to a more recent group self harm storyline – will air from the early 2000s.

Gemma – who is also known for her role as Carly Hope in Emmerdale – was first cast in 2001 and appeared in the show until 2005 but her topical self harm storyline is her most remembered plot.

Lisa was popular at school, much to the dislike of jealous Steph Dean (Carley Stenson), who then began to bully her. Sick of the bullying and after some family problems, Lisa turned to self-harming.

Lisa kept her secret from everyone until Brian Drake found the cuts on her arms and legs and assumed she was being abused and called a social worker.

Lisa then admitted to self harming. She beings to see a counsellor and her life slowly returns to normal.

The storyline was revisited when Steph continued her relentless bullying campaign later and Lisa headed to the edge. But when Steph was eventually confronted about her behaviour, she saw the error of her ways and made amends with Lisa.

Following the success of Hollyoaks Favourites, from Monday 27 July on E4 at 7pm, Hollyoaks@25 will showcase the most talked about storylines – one must-watch week for every five years it has been on air.

The first era will be looking at the years 1995-2000, kicking off with the soap’s first ever huge stunt, and its first ever villain, Rob Hawthorne, as it journeys back to 1999.

A young Tony, Lewis, Ruth and Lucy are in serious danger as they are being held captive in a huge water tank. How will they escape Rob’s evil plan of vengeance?

The first week of episodes will be presented by longest-serving cast member, Nick Pickard (Tony Hutchinson) and Jennifer Metcalfe (Mercedes McQueen). Together, they discuss the episodes to come ahead of the birthday, while socially distancing on the show’s set.

Talking about the new series, Nick Pickard said: ‘It is so lovely being back on set, and seeing all of my fellow co-stars, and what better way to return than to host a new special birthday series with the lovely Jennifer Metcalfe?  Although it’s been so difficult to remember my scripts after all this time, I’m a bit rusty…!

‘I can’t believe it’s been as long as 25 years. After my first call back for Tony Hutchinson, I would never have guessed that I would still be here all these years later. ‘Things are a lot different on set – the change is definitely noticeable, but there’s no better feeling than being back –  it’s home. There are lots of exciting throwbacks in store for Hollyoaks@25, so keep your eyes peeled.’

Jennifer Metcalfe added: ‘I for one am proper excited for Hollyoaks@25, and to get to do the first set of intros with the legendary Nick, who plays Tony, was just brilliant. It was lovely to see Nick again, even if we were two metres apart.

‘I was made up that Hollyoaks Favourites was so successful and loved that it kicked off with Dr Browning and Mercedes – one of my favourite couplings ever. I’m glad to be announcing Hollyoaks@25 as I’m really looking forward to seeing week long sets of episodes, era by era, and it’s going right back to the start too.’

Hollyoaks@25 will be aired during the usual weekday Hollyoaks slot Monday to Friday on E4 at 7pm, from 27th July for five weeks this summer.

Emmerdale teen star Katie Hill promises ‘naughty’ future for Sarah Sugden after shock robbery

Sarah Sugden is caught in Emmerdale
(Picture: ITV)

Her heart is in the right place, but Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill) is set to find herself in a world of trouble when she infiltrates Holdgate Cottage, suspicious that Priya Kotecha (Fiona Wade) is hiding information about the whereabouts of missing Kirin.

Determined to help Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) track him down so that she can get his consent for her to adopt Johnny, Sarah takes a big risk – and indulges in some breaking and entering. And Katie has teased to us that this is just the beginning of her very Dingle behaviour.

After overhearing a suspicious phone call from Priya, Sarah takes action – but after being dismissed by Charity, she resorts to more desperate measures.

Katie explained: ‘She immediately goes home to report to Charity. Charity shuts her down and then in true Dingle style, she takes things into her own hands. She has this plan to break into Holdgate cottage. She goes up there and is spying from the side of a wall. She sees everyone leaving and sees an opportunity to climb through the window.

‘Because she’s got the idea to help Charity and Vanessa in her head, the risk factor goes over her head because she’s so determined to find information.’

The actress went on: ‘Immediately she rushes around, she knows someone could come in at any time. She can’t seem to find anything but then she spots some of Priya’s jewellery and takes that too! She has struggled to find information, she pockets the jewellery and when Charity finds out, she reveals she was going to pawn it and use it to pay to find more information on Kirin.

(Picture: ITV)

‘Sarah is rummaging around and she has to hide but it’s Charity coming in. She’s really annoyed at her for doing this – when Sarah explains she is trying to help, Charity kind of appreciates it but she isn’t pleased overall.’

But while Charity might not approve (bit of a cheek there, Charity!), Katie is loving exploring a more mischevious side to her character after she has endured so much tragedy in her young life.

She enthused: ‘It’s really fun because when I cam into the soap, I was an innocent girl and it was all emotional with her illness so to be able to play her sweet side and now her Dingle side is good fun.

‘It’s just the best being a Dingle. It’s full of great characters and the actors are amazing. You’re never bored, there’s always drama going on, you will never have an easy life. There are always new challenges and themes to tackle. Even if someone doesn’t watch Emmerdale, they know the Dingles!’

Having been in the show for three years, Katie has been at the centre of some dramatic scenes and the youngster is loving every moment.

Sarah hides in Emmerdale
(Picture: ITV)

Addressing her time at Emmerdale, she smiled: ‘Just amazing really. From the moment I got here, everyone just made me feel so welcome. You soon feel like you’ve been there ages. I did a lot of work with Charley at the start and she was amazing from the get go. She took me under her wing and I have learnt so much from everyone. I consider myself so lucky to have this opportunity. It’s been the best.’

‘I get really good responses. The nice thing about her is that her intentions are good even if she’s up to no good. Everyone knows she grew up in hospital – it’s not an excuse but she is spreading her wings a bit now and feels a bit freer. Viewers are understanding that there is more to her than being a brat – it’s usually quite positive.’

But what’s next for the teen tearaway?

Katie mused: ‘With being a Dingle, I can imagine her going down the more naughty side. Her female role models are Charity and Debbie and we know how their lives have been. But I’d still like to keep her sweet side because of everything she went through at a young age.

‘Like I said, though, it would be good to have more mischief so long as we can keep mind of the fact she has been through what she has. She has a good heart but will get up to no good and appreciates the life she has got now.’

The multi skilled actress also has quite the voice on her – something fans witnessed when she took part in Woolpack Sessions.

Katie grinned: ‘Singing is something I have always done – doing the Woolpack Session was scary as I have never done a full performance just me and a keyboard in front of a camera.

‘But it was a great experience to get involved in something outside of the soap. That’s the first time fans have seen me out of character so it was nice to be representing Emmerdale as me.’

New Coronation Street star accidentally gatecrashed Malcolm Hebden’s birthday celebration

Malcolm Hebden

It’s always intimidating meeting your new colleagues when you start a job – particularly if the people you work with happen to be household names for millions of people.

And poor Kel Allen, who plays Laura Neelan, found herself in an awkward situation when she braced herself to enter the Coronation Street green room for the first time – only to find the entire cast were standing and waiting for Malcolm Hebden to mark his birthday.

Recalling the moment, Kel cringed to Metro.co.uk: ‘I was looking forward just to seeing the cast as a whole. The biggest thing for me, going into any acting job, the person I get excited to see is the head chef in the canteen because that’s who’s going to sort me out while I’m there!

‘But work-wise just seeing the cast as a whole, meeting everyone in the green room and getting that out of the way. I remember just thinking, and it’s so cliched and I know everyone says the same thing, but everyone is so welcoming.

‘When you walk into the green room, it’s like walking into someone’s living room with all the family there. Everyone was like “come on in” and welcoming. I remember I was dying for a brew and I knew I had to go into that green room and get it out the way. Just be inconspicuous and just slide through, say hi and just blend in.’

If only!

She continued: ‘I remember choosing my moment and going: “Just do it now”. I walked down through the dressing rooms into the green room. It was literally jam-packed with everyone facing me, all with their hands in the air all waiting.

‘They obviously weren’t waiting for me. I remember thinking: “Oh gosh, this is the worst timing ever”. Everyone was waiting for Malcolm who plays Norris to come in because it was his 80th birthday and they’d got him a surprise cake! I walked in when everyone was waiting for him to come in!

‘But everyone was so lovely, really really nice. I remember Malcolm saying to me: “I wouldn’t mind, it’s my 81st birthday, they’ve got the wrong year”. All fun and games, obviously.

‘It was nice to see so many faces. I think I got it out of the way there and then. It wasn’t what I planned but it worked out for the best.’

And as a lifelong fan of the show, Kel can’t quite believe that she has landed in the cobbles.

She grinned: ‘I think for a lot of northern actors, I think most northern actors, they have to have it as the dream. Most of them do want to do a good stint on Corrie, landing that regular role on Coronation Street is like landing a golden ticket in a Willy Wonka bar of chocolate.

‘I think everyone gets to that point where you get so disheartened because there are so many knockbacks in our industry and some auditions you go for and you get it straight away, some auditions you just don’t get them and you move on from it and accept it.

‘But if it’s your dream, you never give up, you just keep banging on that door until you get through it. Fortunately with Coronation Street I’ve had great opportunities so I think having a casting director that supports you and such supportive directors, it’s just been a dream come true for me, it really has!’

Sir Patrick Stewart shares incredible Coronation Street throwback to 1967 cameo

Sir Patrick Stewart has praised a cameo on Coronation Street as the moment that his parents ‘took him seriously as an actor’.

The beloved acting veteran has just turned 80, and appearing on The One Show took a trip down memory lane to remember some of his key career highlights.

To the shock of viewers, he revealed his one-off starring moment on the Corrie cobbles back in 1967 – one of the ultimate rites of passage for a British actor.

Sharing the clip, Sir Patrick appeared as a firefighter in one episode, complete with a Manchester accent.

Remembering that time of his life, shortly after signing up to the Royal Shakespeare Company, the actor beamed: ‘I was free, and up came this little appearance in Coronation Street.

‘Does it get any more significant than that? I think not, and more than anything else it made my parents very happy, at last they saw that I might have a career as an actor!’

Fast forward 53 years later, and the actor is one of the most beloved TV stars, with roles in cult classics including the X-Men franchise, and the Star Trek universe, as well as a long theatre career.

As Star Trek’s Jean-Luc Picard, Sir Patrick has been given his own branch of the franchise this year with Picard, which focused on the former Enterprise captain coming out of retirement for one last adventure.

The character, which was first seen in Star Trek: The Next Generation, has become one of the most defining roles of his career – and now even James McAvoy wants to play a young version of him.

(Seeing as he’s already played a young Jean-Luc before, it could totally work, too!)

Not bad for a guy who did a one off part in Corrie, right?

The One Show airs weekdays from 7pm on BBC One.
