EastEnders stars Tameka Empson and Diane Parish will sit down with Stacey Dooley in tonight’s edition of Secrets From The Square.

The actresses — who portray Kim and Denise Fox on the BBC One soap — will take their seats in Walford East, as they reminisce about their time in Albert Square thus far.

This marks Tameka’s first time on set since 2019, following character Kim’s decision to go and live in Scotland. Therefore, Tameka attempts a Scottish accent!

Iconic scenes, such as Kim’s birth amid a live segment in the soap’s 30th anniversary, will be revisited, and Diane will also reveal the reason why she once had to pretend to her friends and family that she’d quit the show.

She’ll also recall when she first met Tameka, confirming that it was prior to playing her sister on EastEnders.

Yes, Diane says: ‘I remember when I first met you [Tameka].

‘I met you in the queue in Brixton. We were queuing up to go and see Jill Scott. It was either Jill Scott or Erykah Badu.’

‘We were in the queue, and you came up to me and we had a little chat. And then you went back.’

Tameka doesn’t remember such a meeting, as Diane continues: ‘Well, I remember you, because no one is going to forget meeting you!

‘Obviously, I was so memorable,’ she jokes.

After taking a trip down memory lane, the iconic duo will then take Stacey to Fox and Hair in order to give her a behind the scenes tour.

Coronation Street and Emmerdale casts surprise ‘overwhelmed’ 82-year-old fan after injury

Coronation Street fan Betty

A long-term Coronation Street and Emmerdale fan has been left ‘overwhelmed’ and ‘extremely’ happy after cast members from the shows reached out with tweets and video messages after she suffered an extremely nasty injury in a tough year that also saw her lose her beloved husband.

82-year-old Betty Jordan has followed the drama in Weatherfield and Emmerdale since both shows aired – with her daughter Carol Bridgestock revealing that she hasn’t missed a single episode.

Last week, Betty took a fall down six concrete steps, with Carol telling Metro.co.uk that if she had fallen any further, she may have cracked her skull.

Betty, whose husband died in January after she cared for him through a terminal illness at home, even taking to sleeping on the settee to assure his comfort, was looked after by Carol and her husband, who have praised the NHS for patching up her injuries and having her back home within two hours.

Carol shared with us: ‘Mum is a little wobbly on her feet but we always walk at least a mile every day. But after this, we were so worried that it would shatter her confidence.’

After such a fright, a recovering Betty was understandably low – which is when Carol reached out on Twitter to the stars of her favourite programmes for a few messages to cheer her up. But she wasn’t expecting the response – which left Betty delighted and positively beaming.

‘Coronation Street and Emmerdale are reality to her – she has been with these shows and these characters for every single episode, she absolutely loves them. They are such a comfort to people, particularly mum’s age.

‘She and dad used to watch them together and she still religiously watches every episode. They are such amazing shows for providing this constant in peoples’ lives, especially with COVID-19 going on.’

Carol tweeted asking for a few messages – and swarms of cast responding with loving messages.

‘Mum had bowel and ovarian cancer so she lived through Hayley Cropper’s storyline with her. And since dad died, every death in soap, she lives that with the characters.

‘Julie Hesmondhalgh (Hayley) sent a beautiful video message and she has had videos from Michael Parr (Ross in Emmerdale) and Tony Audenshaw (Bob in Emmerdale) among many others.

‘And so many lovely people from the cast have tweeted – every single tweet means the world to her, she was so happy to see it all, it’s quite emotional and so good of these people to take the time to do this. It’s so kind and they have no idea how much they have given her a boost.

There are far too many tweets to even include in the article, but others sharing love included Sally Ann Matthews (Corrie’s Jenny), Samia Longchambon (Maria), Sally Carman (Abi), Stirling Gallacher (Paula), Kate Ford (Tracy) and Alan Halsall (Tyrone).

Well wishers from Emmerdale include Michelle Hardwick (Vanessa), Natalie Ann Jamieson (Amy), Dominic Brunt (Paddy), Zoe Henry (Rhona), James Moore (Ryan) and Karen Blick (Lydia).

Betty is recovering well at home, with Carol smiling proudly that ‘she is just of the generation where she dusts herself down and gets on with it’.

She’s certainly got the strength of even the greatest Corrie matriarchs.

Coronation Street has confirmed plans to reference coronavirus in a new topical storyline which will see front line worker Aggie Bailey (Lorna Laidlaw) forced to isolate in a hotel after one of her nursing colleagues displays COVID-19 symptoms.

The soap will first reference social distancing at the end of this week as it moves to episodes that have been fully made since the show went back into production.

And a plotline has been written in which sees the community rally round Aggie as she works all of the hours she can amid the crisis.

Back home, proud of his wife, Ed (Trevor Michael Georges) plans an online party for their 13th wedding anniversary.

But when he then gets bad news about Aggie’s situation and he finds out she can’t come home, he has to make rearrangements.

Visit our live blog for the latest updates: Coronavirus news live

Will they manage to find a way to mark their special day?

ITV revealed, with new pictures: ‘The Baileys’ car has broken down, making things difficult for Aggie’s commute to work.

‘Abi lends them Kevin’s car – grateful for Aggie’s work on the front line at the hospital. Aggie later calls Ed to explain that she will have to stay in a hotel for a while due to situations at work.

‘But Ed is gutted as he had planned her a surprise virtual party for her! Can he find another way to show Aggie how he feels about her?’

The storyline comes in the same week that Coronation Street will air the first socially distanced stunt, which will show Gary Windass (Mikey North) run down by a van while saving the life of Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien).

Coronation Street has confirmed in new pictures and storyline details that Yasmeen Nazir (Shelley King) will not die following a terrifying heart attack ahead or her trial.

As the day of reckoning looms, a stressed Yasmeen prepares to face the court but Geoff Metcalfe’s (Ian Bartholomew) recent attempts to twist her back under his control prove overwhelming.

Yasmeen will collapse before taking the stand and as she is rushed to the hospital to fight for her life, the trial is postponed.

Alya (Sair Khan) is horrified to hear the terrible news about her gran and fears she won’t make it – but Yasmeen will next week come round. And there could be hope for her as Geoff’s ex Elaine (Paula Wilcox) steps forward and vows to do what she can to help clear Yasmeen’s name.

Alongside newly released images, ITV teased: ‘Yasmeen wakes up in the hospital and Alya assures her that she will be okay and that the trial has been postponed.

‘Later, Alya receives a call from someone who may be prepared to give evidence against Geoff.

‘They meet up in secret and try to put a plan together to save Yasmeen. But will their plan work? Or will Geoff find a way to ruin things?’

As it stands, Geoff’s only true remaining ally is his son Tim (Joe Duttine) – but when he discovers that he has lied about his mum all his life, will he finally see Geoff’s true colours?

And will the monster’s downfall follow?

Chloe and Pierce in Neighbours
Chloe has a big decision to make (Picture: Channel 5)

Chloe (April Rose Pengilly) has already made the tough decision that she can’t have her own family in Neighbours because of her Huntington’s, but her world is about to be turned upside down.

She and husband Pierce (Tim Robards) between them decided that it wouldn’t be fair for them to have their own family due to the illness. They’d begun to think about the idea of fostering, and other avenues they could go down in order to expand their family. But nature has other ideas.

Chloe asks Ned to do something at work but she’s left gobsmacked when he turns around and tells her he doesn’t actually work for her anymore – it had totally slipped her mind. She’s petrified it’s a sign her Huntington’s is progressing faster than she’d imagined. As she dwells on what this could mean she’s hit by another shock – she’s actually pregnant.

For many people this might be amazing news, for Chloe she’s left in the worst possible place. Her Huntington’s may well be progressing fast, meaning any pregnancy would be seriously complicated. It also means any baby could be affected by the illness as well. Now she needs to have the test and face an agonising wait for news.

And another dilemma to add into the mix – when does she tell Pierce?

Chloe and Elly in Neighbours
Chloe turns to Elly for help (Picture: Channel 5)

At first the thinks she’ll wait until after the test, but she realises he needs to know because the decision isn’t just hers. While her Huntington’s might not be too bad just yet, things will get worse in the future. Do they want to risk bringing a child into that world?

Chloe has to face the fact that she may not have long with her child, and the fact she may have passed on her illness. Now she has an impossible decision riding on her shoulders, whether or not to continue with the pregnancy.

Chloe turns to Elly (Jodi Anasta) for advice, and Elly helps her see that perhaps things aren’t as bad as she imagines. It helps Chloe reach a decision – she wants to wait until the 10 week scan before they decide once and for all.

Scenes air from Monday 27th July on Channel 5.

Coronation Street legend reveals all on Richard Hillman’s iconic ‘Bond stunt’ death

Coronation Street legend Brian Capron has revealed all on the game-changing behind-the-scenes preparations for his now-iconic death as serial killer Richard Hillman.

As we all know, Hillman met his final end as he attempted to drown his stepfamily, including Gail Platt (Helen Worth) and her children David (Jack P Shephard) and Sarah-Louise (Tina O’Brien), but driving their car into a canal.

The ambitious stunt has gone down in soap history, and appearing on This Morning today with fellow Corrie baddie Connor McIntyre (who played Pat Phelan), Brian reminisced on his exit.

‘A Bond stunt scene put that together,’ he revealed to Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford. ‘When they told me I was going to die in a canal, I thought it would be a bit boring but it was absolutely incredible,

‘We were the first soap to ever shoot underwater – that was the money shot really, we did it in a special tank.’

He continued: ‘We actually used five cars for the whole sequence, we were there for two or three days underwater.

Brian Capron played Richard Hillman in Coronation Street

‘The crash was shot overnight and I remember I was put in a body bag, which was pretty horrible.’

Pat Phelan actor Connor also bonded with Brian, saying he had a similarly miserable experience filming his (first) death scene when Eileen Grimshaw (Sue Cleaver) pushed him off a pier.

Basically, they were both very wet, very cold and both pretending to be dead for a long time – sounds stunning.

While Corrie is currently airing some of its most memorable moments in a new retrospective show to counteract the reduced episode count thanks to coronavirus, we clearly have some exciting things on the way.

Pictures have emerged from the Weatherfield set of what just might be the world’s first socially distanced stunt – but what does this mean for Gary?

Coronation Street: Memorable Moments continues tonight at 8.30pm on ITV.

If you’re a Hollyoaks fan we’ve got some bad news for you – as the soap is going off air for a little while after its final pre-lockdown episode airs tonight.

Like all the other soaps before it, the show suspended production in March in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, as the country went into lockdown – and has now run out of episodes, after rationing out those that were remaining.

Hollyoaks isn’t the only soap to be taking a break as a result of this – with EastEnders also currently on a hiatus – but when can we expect it to be back on air?

Here’s what you need to know…

How long is Hollyoaks off air for?

Hollyoaks is set to return to screens in September – although the exact date has yet to be confirmed.

The good news is that when it does return, it’ll be back to four episodes a week, after the number of weekly shows was cut down in the wake of filming being stopped.

Following the suspension, episodes were cut down to three per week before being reduced to two – although fans have had the chance to delve back into the soap’s past with Hollyoaks Favourites, which has seen some classic episodes from the archives being shown once again.

Hollyoaks Favourites is set to continue in the coming weeks – so you won’t be completely without your fix until new episodes resume.

When did Hollyoaks suspend production?

Scott, Goldie and Cher in Hollyoaks
You won’t have to wait too long for new episodes (Picture: Lime Pictures)

Hollyoaks was the last of the main soaps to suspend production back in March as lockdown measures were introduced across the UK.

They said at the time: ‘Dear Hollyoaks viewers. It is with a heavy heart that we have made the decision to pause filming of Hollyoaks.

‘From Monday 30th March, we will be reducing the number of our weekly new episodes from five down to three, which will air Monday to Wednesday. To make sure we stay on air every week night, fans can look forward to extra special episodes every Thursday and Friday on E4.

‘We will remain as present as ever on our social platforms so please keep in touch with us here, stay safe and take care of yourselves. Thank you for your ongoing support.’

The soap has since resumed filming, with safety measures including temperature checks on set and social distancing measures in place.

Yasmeen Nazir (Shelley King) is set for a shock in Coronation Street tonight when she receives a mystery visitor who reveals quite a lot about evil Geoff Metcalfe (Ian Bartholomew).

And the visitor could change everything, given that it turns out to be Elaine – Geoff’s ex-wife whom Geoff has always claimed to be dead.

With Yasmeen’s attempted murder trial looming – and Geoff trying to persuade her to give their marriage another try – the arrival of Elaine is set to shake things up even more.

But just who is playing the character, what else has she been in – and what’s her previous connection to Coronation Street?

Who plays Elaine in Coronation Street?

Elaine is played by actress Paula Wilcox – and although she is only making a guest appearance in the soap she’s set to play a pivotal role in the coming weeks.

‘But as this is Corrie it won’t be plain sailing, there’ll be quite a few twists and turns along the way.

‘Paula is only making a guest appearance for a few weeks but it’s a role she’ll relish sinking her teeth into.

‘After all she’ll play a pivotal part in a storyline that’s had the nation gripped.’

The 70-year-old is no stranger to soaps either, having played HIlary Potts in Emmerdale between 2007-2008.

And this isn’t her first brush with Corrie either – as she appeared in five episodes back in 1969 as Ray Langton’s sister Janice.

Coronation Street continues on ITV on Monday night at 7.30pm.

General Hospital weekly spoilers
General Hospital is keeping up with recent storylines again this week (Picture: ABC /General Hospital)

Michael (Chad Duell) is preparing for court because he needs to do all he can to be ready for his custody battle in this week’s General Hospital.

Naturally, he’s worried that Nelle (Chloe Lanier) will be able to win the judge over with the help of her lawyer Martin Gray (Michael E Knight) and get sole custody.

Meanwhile, Nelle is looking to get Nina (Cynthia Watros) in her corner and asks her to be a character witness. And she also sets her sight on Julian (William DeVry) – anything to strengthen her chance of winning the court battle.

Willow (Katelyn MacMullen) is also worried about the court case. But she’s also contemplating her future – will she marry Michael in order to stop Nelle getting custody of Wiley?

Chase (Josh Swickard) and Sasha (Sofia Mattsson) are certainly hoping their master plan comes to fruition.

Indeed Lucy will get an important phone call in the week so it could well be Willow alerting her to the fact she possibly doesn’t need an apartment after all.

She wouldn’t if she was moving into the Q mansion with Michael!

Michael’s family are definitely on board with the idea, Carly (Laura Wright) is pretty open about her admiration of Willow. Someone Carly isn’t happy with is Chase!

Meanwhile, Lynn reaches out to Dustin and Chase declines Finn’s offer.

Lucy gets an important phone call. Nelle is antagonistic. Curtis is furious.

Mac pulls Chase to the side and Laura supports Robert. Anna is preoccupied – there’s something still troubling her about the story of Holly Sutton’s ‘death’.

Diane prepares Michael and Carly confronts Chase. Nina gives Sasha a hard time later in the week.

General Hospital airs weekdays at 12pm (ET) on ABC.

Lydia is scared in Emmerdale
(Picture: ITV)

Lydia Dingle (Karen Blick) has opened up about her fears for the future in moving Emmerdale scenes as she confided in Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter) about her terror over taking the test for Huntington’s Disease.

She first learned that she could have the genetic disease when she was reunited with her long lost mother but until now, she has been too intimidated to go through with the test.

This has been a worrying time for Sam (James Hooton) too, who has been desperate for his wife to put their minds at rest – especially after he lost his last wife Alice to cancer.

While Lydia has slowly come round to Sam’s way of thinking, tonight, she felt bad after snapping at him and wondered if the mood swings were a sign of her having symptoms.

Chas tried to reassure her as Lydia admitted that she has bottled having the test because of what the future could hold for her but she finally made the decision to go ahead with it – although she doesn’t want the rest of the family to know about it.

After she reasoned it’s the only way to get closure, Lydia tearfully asked Chas not to tell her that everything will be okay – as it’s just as likely that it won’t.

As Lydia feared what she would find out, what will the test say when she goes through with it? Will there be a tragic outcome?

Huntington’s disease is a condition that stops parts of the brain working properly over time. It’s passed on (inherited) from a person’s parents.

It gets gradually worse over time and is usually fatal after a period of up to 20 years.

You can find out more information about the condition on the NHS website.

Hollyoaks’ final pre-lockdown episode saw Walter Deveraux (Trevor A Toussaint) vow to stop Mitchell (Imran Adams) from marrying Scott Drinkwell (Ross Adams) in a huge cliffhanger, as the soap goes off the air.

Mitchell struggled to find the words to tell Walter about his wedding to Scott — which was due to take place the very next day — and therefore when asked, he covered by informing his granddad that he was simply attending a charity event.

Scott was devastated to learn that his beau hadn’t been honest with his granddad, and thus he hid out in The Dog toilets and poured his heart out to Mercedes (Jennifer Metcalfe).

The landlady did her best to comfort him — reminding him of how special he is to Mitchell, and how much Mitchell loves him. Goldie (Chelsee Healey) later reiterated the same thing, and therefore Scott continued the pre-wedding celebrations.

However, Toby (Bobby Gordon) — who’d just returned to the village with sister Celeste (Andrea Ali) — was hellbent on ruining his biological brother’s big day, and thus he headed to Price Slice and revealed all about the wedding to Walter.

Walter was horrified to learn that Mitchell was set to marry Scott the following day, and therefore resolved to put a stop to it.

Meanwhile, Scott celebrated with his family at The Dog — having no idea that Walter was plotting to destroy the ceremony.

Will the wedding go ahead?

Or will Walter succeed in ruining it?

We’ll have to wait quite some time before we find out the answers to either of these questions, as this was the final pre-lockdown episode of the Channel 4 soap, meaning that it’s officially gone off the air!

In the meantime, be sure to check out Hollyoaks Favourites each and every weeknight on E4.

Hollyoaks will return to E4 with four episodes a week later in the year.

Moira, Malone and Cain in Emmerdale
(Picture: ITV)

Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) has been pushed to the limit by demonic detective Malone (Mark Womack) in Emmerdale as his reign of terror has tormented him for months.

But now that he believes that Moira (Natalie J Robb) has been caught in the crossfire of the war, there is no holding Cain back as he prepares to kill the corrupt cop for running over Moira.

While fans know that it was actually Jamie Tate (Alexander Lincoln) who was to blame for the accident, Cain is not having it that Malone is innocent and he made it clear to a worried Harriet Finch (Katherine Dow Blyton) that he was going to seek revenge.

As Cain stormed out in a rage, Harriet later visited a recovering Moira and told her that she had been to see Malone – and was sure that for once, he is telling the truth.

Moira scoffed at the idea that Harriet would fall for a schemer like Malone but Harriet argued that she knows him well enough to tell when he is being truthful – and she genuinely believes that he wasn’t the one who left her for dead that night.

While her instincts are spot on, Moira is less than sure – and she added that it wasn’t her she needed to convince, it was Cain.

With Cain plotting to finish Malone off, Harriet faces a race against time to intervene and persuade Cain to back away before he makes things worse.

Can she get through to him – or is it too late?

The ongoing war between Toby Faroe (Bobby Gordon) and his twin Mitchell Deveraux (Imran Adams) could be about to end in tragedy as the pair have an almighty clash at the big wedding.

A new trailer has revealed that the animosity between them will explode and when Mitchell declares that Toby will never be part of the family, Toby lashes out in a big way, leaving Celeste in a state of shock.

Daniel and Nicky in bed in Coronation Street

Coronation Street has aired further heartbreaking scenes for Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard) as his reliance on sex worker Nick (Kimberly Hart Simpson) continued to grow – as she told him that he was fast becoming her best customer.

Since meeting Nicky, Daniel has enjoyed a bond with her but his early hopes that their natural connection was a romantic one were dashed when he found out that she would be charging for her company.

He later came round to the idea but while Nicky has assured Daniel he can get a lot more for his money, he is not interested in sex. He just doesn’t want to feel lonely anymore.

Having asked Adam Barlow (Sam Robertson) for an advance on his wages, Daniel went to meet with Nicky in a hotel room once more and she already knew what he wanted from her.

He handed her Sinead’s cardigan, which she donned before then spraying the perfume of Daniel’s late wife across herself.

As an ashamed and embarrassed looking Daniel lay on the bed, Nicky joined her and he cuddled up with her, closing his eyes with grief and soaking in the scent as he imagined his wife was in his arms.

But will this really lead to Daniel finding peace? Or will his growing dependance on Nicky just end with more heartbreak?

How much longer can he carry on like this?

Gary and Laura in Coronation Street
(Picture: ITV)

Gary Windass (Mikey North) is a man running out of options as Laura continues to put pressure on him to contact her dead ex-husband Rick Neelan while Adam Barlow (Sam Robertson) edges closer to the truth about the body in the woods.

In tonight’s visit to Coronation Street, Gary was disheartened after speaking to Rick and Laura’s daughter Kelly and when he clocked a nasty bruise on her arm, he was infuriated with Laura.

He later confronted her and she told him it was none of his business and he doesn’t understand the pressure she is under since Rick left her.

Gary spat back that he would contact Rick and tell him that she was hurting his daughter but Laura challenged him to do just that – as she has plenty she wants to say to him.

Backed into a corner, Gary had to snap and he slammed her against a wall and warned her she doesn’t want to know what he would do if she kept crossing him.

She argued that she isn’t scared of him but made a quick dash away, looking nervous. Adam spotted her from afar, his suspicions over Gary’s involvement in Rick’s disappearance more solid than ever.

But as Gary tries to hold it all together, will he be able to keep his cool when Adam directly accuses him on murder?

Or is the truth set to come to light?

Coronation Street today confirmed that the storyline would lead to the world’s first socially distanced stunt when Gary is left for dead after saving Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien).

Is he about to take his killer secret to the grave?
