Who is Luke in Emmerdale and what does he want with Victoria?

Luke chats to Victoria in Emmerdale
Luke has been growing closer to Victoria – but what does he really want? (Picture: ITV)

Victoria Barton (Isabel Hodgins) has been through a horrific time in recent months in Emmerdale.

After suffering a horrendous assault at the hands of evil rapist Lee Posner (Kris Mochrie) following a night out, she then became pregnant with his baby – only for things to get even worse after her brother Robert (Ryan Hawley) was sentenced to 14 years behind bars for murdering Lee.

You’d think she deserves some happiness, and it looked as though that might happen after she met a young man called Luke (Max Parker) in the hospital canteen – with the pair hitting it off.

But is Luke really all that he seems and are things about to get even worse for Victoria?

Here’s what you need to know…

Who is Luke in Emmerdale?

Much to Victoria’s shock, it’s been revealed that Luke is actually Lee Posner’s brother.

Victoria and Luke in Emmerdale
(Picture: ITV)

She found out their link after Robert was sentenced for Lee’s murder, having previously attacked him with a shovel in revenge for what he did to his sister.

As Victoria was sitting in the public gallery, Luke appeared and sat next to Lee’s mum Wendy – revealing his identity.

She later told Aaron (Danny Miller) and Liv (Isobel Steele) that she knew Luke, and later confronted him – but both he and Wendy were insistent that they hadn’t planned for him to deliberately get close to Victoria.

The pair subsequently came face to face as he tried to apologise for what had happened and attempt to convince her he was nothing like his brother – before saying he believed her story.

And before leaving the village he told her: ‘Maybe someday we can throw caution to the wind and see if destiny can take us’ – sparking the suggestion that we’ll be seeing more of the character.

What does Luke want with Victoria?

It’s not yet clear what Luke’s motivation is for trying to get close to Victoria.

It could be that he is out for revenge after what happened to his brother, and plans to break her heart as a result.

Or it’s equally possible that he has genuine intentions towards her.

Either way, this storyline looks to be far from over – but we’ll have to keep watching to see how things progress.

Emmerdale airs weeknights on ITV at 7pm.

Characters from Emmerdale who have left in 2019
Who’s leaving Emmerdale next? (Picture: Rex)

There have been a lot of exits of late in Emmerdale with characters leaving the Dales or getting killed off at an alarming rate.

The spate of exits this year so far is only set to continue with the likes of Bernice (Samantha Giles), Pete (Anthony Quinlan) and Graham (Andrew Scarborough) due to follow their co-stars in leaving the soap later this year.

After an extremely eventful two years on Emmerdale, Andrew is due to film his final scenes in the coming weeks, with his exit to hit our screens at the start of next year, but who is leaving before him and who else has left Emmerdale over the last two years?

Who left Emmerdale in 2018?

Adam Barton (Adam Thomas)

The first major character to leave in 2018, Adam Thomas’ final appearance on Emmerdale was on January, 2, 2018. His character left for Budapest in Hungary where he planned to rebuild his life away from the drama of his past in the Dales.

Sandy Thomas (Freddie Jones)

Bowing out in February 2018, Sandy’s exit storyline saw him leave for Australia in a bid to see more of the world in his old age.

Lawrence (John Bowe) and Chrissie White

Lawrence and his step-daughter Chrissie were both killed in a car crash orchestrated by a psychopathic Lachlan White on January 11 2018, when the murderous teen intentionally killed his mother and grandfather by driving into the path of an oncoming lorry.

Gerry Roberts (Shaun Thomas)

Another of Lachlan White’s victims, Gerry was killed by his former best friend in a controversial scene in May 2018 that generated 116 complaints to Ofcom by viewers.

Joe Tate (Ned Porteous)

Character Joe Tate was killed off in October 2018 by Graham Foster in a hit arranged by villainous Kim Tate in a move to take over Home Farm.

Ross Barton (Michael Parr) and Rebecca White (Emily Head)

Ross and Rebecca left Emmerdale together in November 2018 with Rebecca’s son Seb to start a new life together after the pair suffered individual tragedies in the form of an acid attack and a traumatic hostage storyline.

Who has left Emmerdale so far in 2019?

Lachlan White (Thomas Atkinson)

After making the lives of his fellow Emmerdale characters hell for years, Lachlan was finally caught and brought to justice. Following one final confrontation with his ex Belle Dingle, Lachlan’s final scenes before serving his life sentence aired in January 2019.

Donny Cairn (Alan Convy)

Last seen visiting his son Lachlan White in prison, Alan Convy’s final scenes before leaving Emmerdale aired in January 2019.

Daz Spencer (Mark Jordon)

Former soldier Dan hasn’t been seen on the soap since the end of January 2019, when his brother, Daz, made peace with him after discovering he had PTSD.

Lisa Dingle (Jane Cox)

After two decades on the soap, Jane Cox left Emmerdale in May 2019 as her character Lisa died of a terminal condition just hours after remarrying her soulmate, Zak (Steve Halliwell).

Aiesha Richards (Shila Iqbal)

Emmerdale aired a low-key explanation for the exit of sacked actress Shila Iqbal in May 2019, revealing that her character Aiesha Richards had ‘taken off’ to help a friend in Ibiza.

Frank Clayton (Michael Praed)

His engagement to Megan was never to be as Frank died heroically after saving his daughter from the devastating factory fire. His final scenes aired on August 1, 2019.

Maya Stepney (Louisa Clein)

A controversial and unpopular character to the last scene, Maya left the soap in June 2019 after being sentenced to a year in prison for grooming her under age student Jacob Gallagher (Joe Warren Plant).

Megan Macey (Gaynor Faye)

After seven years in the soap, Gaynor’s character Megan said goodbye to Emmerdale in August 2019 as she decided to move away following Frank Clayton’s funeral.

Jessie Dingle (Sandra Marvin)

Sandra Marvin announced she was leaving the soap to appear in new production The Thunder Girls. Her character left Emmerdale in September 2019 to begin a new life as a teacher in Dubai.

Ellis Chapman (Asan N’Jie)

Another sacked Emmerdale star that was given a swift and uneventful exit, it was revealed in October 2019 that the character of Ellis had gone abroad to live with his mum and make money in Dubai.

Lee Posner (Kris Mochrie)

He only made his first appearance in the soap in April 2019, but actor Kris exited Emmerdale on October 15, 2019 after his character was killed off by Robert Sugden.

Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley)

Robert’s exit scenes aired at the end of October 2019, after he was jailed for the murder of his sister’s rapist. Finding out that he was being transferred to a prison on the Isle of Wight, he put a moratorium on receiving any visitors, leaving fans and his on-screen husband, Aaron Dingle, devastated.

Who is leaving Emmerdale next?

Bernice Blackstock (Samantha Giles)

After seven years on the soap, actress Samantha Giles recently quit Emmerdale, meaning that Bernice’s happily-ever-after plan doesn’t look like it will pan out. The exact details of her departure haven’t yet been announced.

Pete Barton (Anthony Quinlan)

The final steward of the Barton clan, Pete is following in the footsteps of his siblings and leaving Emmerdale. It was revealed in September 2019 that Anthony would be leaving the soap, but his exit storyline is still a secret.

Graham Foster (Andrew Scarborough)

As the final battle between Graham and Kim dawns, the exit of Andrew has been confirmed and will be in explosive in nature as he will film his final scenes in the coming weeks. In the early part of next year, Graham will bow out – but will Kim get the upper hand?

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV, with an extra episode at 8pm on Thursdays.

Aaron in tears in Emmerdale
(Picture: ITV)

Aaron Dingle’s (Danny Miller) world has collapsed around him in tonight’s episode – leading to him snapping and punching Victoria Barton’s (Isabel Hodgins) new love interest Luke Posner (Max Parker).

Aaron had just about got his head around Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) being jailed but was clearly holding onto the prospect of regular visits to keep him going. As he talked to Liv (Isobel Steele), Paddy (Dominic Brunt) and Chas (Lucy Pargeter) about their unusual and very final sounding previous visit, Aaron’s loved ones reassured him that Robert was probably just trying to adjust.

However, the truth soon became clear as Aaron was unable to process a visiting order to go and see Robert again. As he phoned up to find out why, he was told that not only had Robert been moved to the Isle Of Wight to serve his 14 year sentence but that he was rejecting any contact or visiting orders.

Devastated, Aaron headed to see Victoria but, seeing her out on what seemed like a date with rapist Lee’s brother Luke, he saw red and punched him to the ground in rage. Luke thought that Victoria had deliberately set him up but the pair later made amends.

However, seeing Victoria with Luke is bound to be difficult for Aaron, who feels like he can’t get on with his own life. With no control of the situation, he broke down in tears as Liv became deeply concerned for his state of mind.

Taking off both wedding rings, Aaron declared that it was clearly over and Robert had made his decision – and this rejection is going to impact him hard moving forward, especially as he didn’t get the chance to say a final goodbye.

With Aaron unable to contact his husband in any way and Liv growing more and more worried about how he is coping, what will on edge Aaron do next?

Mel Owen and Keanu Taylor in EastEnders
(Picture: BBC)

Mel Owen (Tamzin Outhwaite) is hellbent on getting revenge on the Mitchell clan at all costs, and her plan currently involves blackmailing Sharon (Letitia Dean) with the threat of revealing the fact that Keanu Taylor (Danny Walters) is the father of her baby and not Phil (Steve McFadden). Tonight, however, Keanu came to the realisation of what Mel was up to.

Yes, with Louise’s (Tilly Keeper) birthday on the horizon, Mel made clear her intentions to mark the occasion. However, the young woman revealed that she didn’t want a party, but Mel wasted little time in mentioning how she planned to throw her one. Keanu was adamant that there was no need to do so, but Mel soon revealed that the move to Portugal is back on — much to his dismay.

Viewers will remember that Keanu had successfully convinced Lisa (Lucy Benjamin) against the idea of moving to Portugal, but when Mel informed Lisa of the dangers that lurk in Walford for all of them, she reconsidered.

Tonight, Keanu confronted Lisa on the matter once more, but Lisa revealed that Mel’s got something important on the Mitchells.

However, matters were complicated further when Mel suggested that she knew of his affair with Sharon — warning him matters could be a lot worse if he can’t get Sharon to behave.

Mel’s intentions are well and truly clear, and with Keanu now aware of how dangerous she is, he’ll no doubt be forced to play ball.

The question is: will Mel’s knowledge of Keanu’s affair play into his upcoming exit, as well as hers?

EastEnders continues Tuesday 5thNovember at 7:30pm on BBC One.

Maria Connor and Gary Windass in Coronation Street
(Picture: ITV)

Gary Windass (Mikey North) has his sights set on Maria Connor (Samia Longchambon) in Coronation Street, but he faced some competition from Ali Neeson (James burrows) in tonight’s episode, as the doc kissed her. However, Gary put a plan into action to ensure Ali’s no longer a problem, before he won Maria’s affections — something which has put her in extreme danger as a result.

With Ali having failed to checked Emma (Alexandra Mardell) out when she complained of pains in her side, Steve (Simon Gregson) didn’t hold back, and thus he reported the young doctor to Dr Gaddas tonight. Ali was devastated and, as he spoke to Maria in the Victoria Gardens, he opened up about his feelings, admitting that he shouldn’t have dumped her, before claiming that he’s jealous of Gary.

Ali leaned in for a kiss, and Maria reciprocated. However, unbeknown to them, Gary watched from afar.

Later, Maria admitted to Gary that she kissed Ali, but Gary was none too pleased about the whole thing. As a result, he met up with the private detective, and told him to get him something on Ali.

As the episode came to an end, Gary arrived at Maria’s flat and the two made amends, before Maria implied that she was ready to take their relationship to the next level — much to Gary’s delight.

His attempts to win Maria’s affection have worked, but — considering the lengths he’s willing to go to in order to eliminate Ali as a threat — it’s pretty obvious that Maria’s in danger as long as she’s dating him.

Will she come to realise who Gary truly is — not to mention what he’s capable of?

Coronation Street continues Wednesday 6thNovember at 7:30pm and 8:30pm on ITV.

Yazz Maalik
(Picture: Lime Pictures)

Yazz Maalik (Haiesha Mistry) has had an incredibly tough time in Hollyoaks as of late, after she was left for dead in the explosion which rocked the village several weeks back. After said explosion, she came to the realisation that the blast had left her deaf. However, she could be in imminent danger, as she grows closer and closer to rapist Finn O’Connor (Keith Rice).

After Yazz dropped her burger, Finn came to her rescue, as he offered to buy her another. The pair discussed the events of the explosion — primarily the involvement of far-right extremists Jonny (Ray Quinn) and Stuart (Chris Simmons) — and Finn promised the pair would pay for their actions.

The pair’s developing friendship is explored further in the coming episodes, as talk turns to Sinead (Stephanie Davis) and Sami’s (Rishi Nair) wedding once more, and Yazz needs Finn’s help with an order. Finn’s noticeably upset that he hasn’t been invited to the upcoming ceremony, but Yazz mentions how it’s important for him to respect Sinead’s decision.

Finn is seemingly touched by her words, and thanks her for being a friend. However, he puts his hand on her arm and she flinches as a result.

Back at the Maaliks’ household, Azim (Nav Sidhu), Diane (Alex Fletcher) and Sami discuss the wedding, and Yazz is upset that she can’t hear what they’re saying.

She heads off, but Imran (Ijaz Rana) notices and goes after her. She informs him it’s difficult being around those who knew her before she lost her hearing, which is why she finds it easier to spend time with people like Finn — a revelation which leaves Imran shocked.

Is Yazz in danger from Finn?

The young man has attempted to prove that his time in prison has changed him, but could he perhaps have ulterior motives in developing a relationship with Yazz?

It’s been a long waiting game for them and things haven’t been helped by the snobby parents at Ollie’s school making comments about him and about Linda’s parenting. With everything going on, Mick has started to experience serious anxiety which led to him having panic attacks – which, for a long time he kept hidden from Linda.

Linda has tried to keep a lid on things and reassured Mick and herself that things will be okay no matter what Ollie’s diagnosis is. However, with things getting on top of her as the tries to fit into the school mum scene, Linda has started to become reliant on alcohol as a coping mechanism.

As Louise is shocked to hear about what has happened between her mum and Mel, she confronts Lisa, who tells Louise that it’s clear Mel isn’t coping. However, Louise jumps to the conclusion that it’s actually Lisa who is unwell and she questions her about her medication.

Later, at the club, Mel apologises to Lisa but her scheming soon becomes clear. Sharon is in a panic as Phil is on his way back after hearing about the sale of the E20. Daniel Osbourne in Coronation Street
(Picture: ITV)

Daniel Osbourne’s (Rob Mallard) world came crashing down in Coronation Street when beloved wife Sinead Tinker (Katie McGlynn) passed away after a battle with cancer, and his devastation continues in the coming episodes — but will Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) be able to get through to him and convince him to return home?

After an altercation with Beth (Lisa George) over his developing feelings for Bethany (Lucy Fallon), Daniel resolved to leave the street and move to Scotland, as he believed it would be better for both him and Bertie to get away for a while. After his departure, Carla (Alison King) implored Ken (William Roache) to get in touch with his son, as she needed to speak to him regarding business.

Ken eventually managed to get through to Daniel, and — upon doing do — he asked him to come home. However, Daniel refused to do so — and thought it best for him to remain in Scotland with Bertie, where he could have his own personal goodbye for Sinead — a fact which confirmed that he wouldn’t be returning for the funeral.

After giving it some thought, Ken and Claudia (Rula Lenska) headed off to Scotland to track Daniel down, but they return in the coming episodes, having been unable to locate him.

However, Peter eventually gets in touch with Daniel and — after a conversation — the young man finally admits that he’s actually in Cheshire — not Scotland.

Deep in thought on a hillside, Daniel is later shocked to find Peter alongside him. Peter wastes little time in trying to convince Daniel to return to the Street — revealing that Ken is sick with worry. What’s more, he attempts to highlight how — with Sinead gone — Bertie will need all of his family more than ever.

Will Peter’s words convince Daniel to come home?

Roy Cropper (David Neilson) is set for a huge shock in Coronation Street when he comes to the realisation that he has a secret brother and, in the coming episodes, he’s set to come face-to-face with that long-lost sibling. The question is: how will he react?

Viewers will know that Roy has developed a bit of an obsession with online Scrabble as of late — much to Carla’s (Alison King) dismay — but the reason for his sudden obsession comes to light in the coming episodes, when he reveals that he believes his online opponent to be none other than his secret brother.

However, an issue arises when said opponent disappears in the middle of a game — something which Roy deems to be very out-of-character.

Roy opens up to Carla about how — upon doing some research — he recently discovered that his mum Sylvia had another son named Richard — who was the product of an affair — whom she put him up for adoption. Carla’s shocked at Roy’s revelation, but when she learns that he has an address for Richard, she encourages him to track him down.

With Carla’s words on encouragement in his mind, Roy does just that, but he’s left upset when a young woman answers the door and proceeds to deny having any knowledge of a man named Richard. However, upon shutting the door, this woman tells Richard — who’s revealed to be her dad — that the caller was simply someone collecting for charity.

Later in the week, Roy heads back to Richard’s — with Carla in tow — and this time, they’re let in by a care worker, who reveals Richard is suffering from pulmonary fibrosis.

After another visit, Roy reveals who he really is to Richard.

The question is: how will Richard react to learning that he’s got a half-brother?

Mercedes McQueen in Hollyoaks with her suspects
(Picture: Lime Pictures)

Mercedes McQueen (Jennifer Metcalfe) has been to hell and back this past year in Hollyoaks, but things got much worse for her last week when — after the truth about her having been the one who ran down Grace Black (Tamara Wall) was made public knowledge — she was shot by an unknown assailant as she danced the night away on The Loft’s dancefloor. However, more clues about the identity of the shooter come to light in the coming episodes.

Mercedes well and truly upset the entire village when not only the truth about her involvement in the hit-and-run came to light, but also the fact that she set Harry (parry Glasspool) up to become prime suspect in the police investigation. With Harry having recently been murdered, this revelation has seemingly put Mercedes in the frame as his killer.

An unidentified resident picked up a gun and shot Mercedes, leaving her for dead — and there’s plenty of residents in the frame, given how much damage The Dog landlady has caused.

However, it’s Liam (Jude Monk McGowan) who’s brought in for questioning in the coming episodes, as the police confirm that his gun is a match for the one that shot Mercedes. As a result, Grace begs James (Gregory Finnegan) to represent Liam, and she eventually persuades him to do so — much to DS Cohen’s dismay.

Liam’s not the only one acting shifty during the week in question, as Diane (Alex Fletcher) bumps into Grace and asks her if she would keep quiet about what she saw on the night that Mercedes was shot

With both Diane and Liam having something to hide, could either of these two have been the one who pulled the trigger and left Mercedes for dead?

Both certainly have a motive — but are either capable of carrying out such a heinous act?

Nina in Coronation Street
(Picture: ITV)

Roy Cropper (David Neilson) is set to make a shocking discovery next week in Coronation Street when he comes face-to-face with his long-lost brother, Richard (Paul Bown) — but there’s yet another shocking discovery in store for the café owner, as he comes to the realisation that he also has a teenage niece, named Nina.

In the coming episodes, Roy will begin to research his mother’s life, and he’ll come to discover that his mum not only had an affair, but that she’d had a son during said affair.

With Carla’s (Alison king) support, Roy goes in search of his long-lost brother Richard but, upon arriving at the address, he comes face-to-face with him — but he’s surprised to find that Richard has a teenage daughter called Nina.

Nina, Roy, Richard and Carla in Coronation Street
(Picture: ITV)

Nina won’t be too pleased with her uncle’s sudden appearance — which will no doubt cause plenty of conflict between the two. However, Richard is terminally ill, and as a result, he agrees to look after Nina.

On this storyline, actor David Neilson said: ‘The storyline is a great device to bring Roy’s niece Nina into his life, a new relationship with a younger character, a troubled young person in the same way as he took in Wayne, Fiz, Becky and even cared for Carla when she was struggling. It is an interesting dynamic.’

‘Roy works well when he has something to focus on, a problem to solve or someone to look out for, particularly someone who others may see as a bit different. Roy can identify with that as he has been an outsider himself. It is interesting and it puts him on his mettle. They are different generations and worlds apart but there is a connection between them’

Newcomer Mollie Gallagher will be taking on the part of Nina — which will be her first TV role. Speaking of her casting, Mollie said: ‘I am absolutely delighted to be in Coronation Street.

‘I grew up watching the show and it is surreal to be on the set working alongside such incredible actors as David Neilson and Alison King. Nina is a really interesting character, she is a bit of an outsider and although she is reluctant to let Roy into her life she soon realises they have more in common than she first thought.’

Charity and Vanessa in Emmerdale
(Picture: ITV)

Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) and Vanessa Woodfield (Michelle Hardwick) are about to hit the rocks in a heartbreaking split as Vanessa reels from Charity’s secret scam with Mandy (Lisa Riley). The popular Emmerdale couple have been through thick and thin together – and are one of few soap power couples to find romance through means other than infidelity – but they are about to face intense pressure that Emmerdale is warning they may not come back from.

With Vinny having revealed that Charity was in cahoots with Mandy in the casino chip heist that has left the Dingle family at the mercy of thugs wanting paid back, Vanessa feels betrayed and lied to and gives her fiancee the opportunity to tell her the truth about what she has done.

Of course, dodgy dealings are nothing new for Charity but what stings Vanessa the most is that she was kept in the dark. So when Charity lies to her face when given the chance to tell her everything, Vanessa is gutted and decides she can’t trust her. Charity is shattered when Vanessa calls off their engagement.

Charity and Chas in Emmerdale
(Picture: ITV)

Emma Atins told us: ‘It’s such a tangled web and she gets herself into such a state and it’s nothing new really. But since she’s met Vanessa, she’s been on the straight and narrow. Vanessa was hoping that this was proving that she’s turned over a new leaf, but unfortunately money — and the thrill of getting dressed up in a wig again — all becomes too exciting, so she takes on the challenge, starts this web of lies and then it completely spirals out of control.’

As the Dingles learn the full truth about the heist and what Charity and Mandy have landed them in, Sarah and Noah are upset that Charity and Vanessa have split up and make their feelings clear.

Vanessa misses Charity in Emmerdale
(Picture: ITV)

Elsewhere, it’s evident that Vanessa and Charity are struggling with being apart as Vanessa breaks down in her sister Tracy Shankley’s (Amy Walsh) arms while Charity opens up to Vanessa about how much she misses her.

Emma sighed: ‘Charity’s quite devastated. And then it’s completely exacerbated when Moses goes missing. Her world is crashing in on her, and it’s not like she can run to Vanessa — because Vanessa would be the most perfect human it run to in a crisis, because she’s to a child — she’s got Johnny. So, it’s all falling away at the seams because that confidante, that relationship and that closeness is gone. It’s evaporated because of her wrong doing.’

But Emmerdale sources have declared that this could be the end, with previews stating: ‘A fragile Charity confides in Vanessa over how difficult things have been without her but it doesn’t look like a reunion is on the horizon.’

That said, all hope is not lost as boss Kate Brooks recently made it clear that a wedding would eventually happen – but how long will it take Vanity to get back on track?

Kate shared: ‘It is something that will eventually happen in time, but it’s not on the cards immediately. In real life, people stay engaged for two or three years, although I’m not saying we’ll have to wait that long!’

Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) is a broken man in the wake of Robert Sugden’s (Ryan Hawley) departure from Emmerdale and, fragile and feeling as if he has nothing left to lose, he is set to fall back into his old ways. With Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) having also hit self destruct since the breakdown of his marriage to Moira (Natalie J Robb), the pair are set to embark down a dangerous road which could have desperate consequences.

Neither Cain or Aaron are strangers to scams or crimes but with Aaron’s mental health struggles and Cain’s volatile temper, this could be a toxic mix when coupled with both of their ongoing despair.

Liv Flaherty (Isobel Steele) has been worried about Aaron’s state of mind since he lost his husband so when she sees he is acting shifty and spending a lot of time with Cain, she is keen to get to the bottom of the matter.

Sean demands that Aaron and Cain return the car in order for Moses to be returned safely and Charity is disgusted that they could have risked the child’s life in this way.

Cain and Aaron try to make amends and apologise for their actions but Charity is having none of it. As Chas (Lucy Pargeter) defends Aaron and reminds Charity of what Aaron has been through, Charity rages at her and it causes a major rift.

Will this be a wake up call for Aaron that he needs to sort himself out?

Robert Preston in Coronation Street crash
(Picture: ITV)

Robert Preston (Tristan Gemmill) is no doubt under serious pressure right now in Coronation Street, what with him having a secret relationship with Vicky Jeffries (Kerri Quinn) behind Michelle Connor’s (Kym Marsh) back, but this will be the least of his worries in the coming episodes, as he finds himself the victim of a devastating car crash.

For several months, Robert has been sneaking off to see Vicki — who’s pregnant with his child. Of course, Michelle hasn’t a clue what he’s getting up to, but — in order to keep his secret life hidden — he was forced to take drastic action when Tyler showed up on the cobbles, and thus he informed Steve (Simon Gregson) about the young lad having recently become friends with Amy (Elle Mulvaney) once more.

In the coming episodes, he faces consequences for his actions, as he’s called over to Vicky’s so that he can placate Tyler over his actions. After doing so, he sets off and heads home once more.

Meanwhile, Michelle informs Alya (Sair Khan) about Ray’s advances, and warns her to be careful, but — upon Alya confronting him — Ray heads round and issues her with a letter for breach of contract and defamation. Devastated, Michelle calls Robert to tell him what’s happened, but Robert answers the call while driving, and becomes distracted and, as a result, he crashes the car.

Later, Michelle grows concerned when she can’t get back through to Robert’s mobile.

The police then call her from Robert’s phone to inform her that he’s been in a serious road accident, and she’s horrified.

Will Robert die as a result of his injuries?

Jonny and Stuart in Hollyoaks
(Picture: Lime Pictures)

Ste Hay (Kieron Richardson) has been radicalised by far-right extremists Jonny Baxter (Ray Quinn) and Stuart Sumner (Chris Simmons) in Hollyoaks, but the young lad is desperate to get out of the group now that he knows what they’re capable of following the attack they carried out in the village. However, this proves difficult in the coming episodes, as Stuart and Jonny plot to take over a rival group — and violence soon ensues.

Ste does everything he can to come up with a viable excuse to leave the house, and eventually he manages to do so. However, in spite of his excuse, Stuart tells him to stay put, informing him to remain in the house while he meets with a rival group.

Stuart orders his son Sid to keep an eye on Ste in his absence, but little does he know that Sid has a date with Juliet (Niamh Blackshaw) — which is something that Ste uses to convince Sid to leave him in the house on his own.

Ste makes preparations to exit the group and get out safely but he’s got plenty of other things on his mind — such as Stuart and Jonny’s latest plan.

Later in the week, the extremists inform Ste about their plan to take over a rival group. As they’re leaving to do so, Stuart grabs a knife from the kitchen drawer.

Later, a stab victim stumbles into the hospital after a gang fight took place in town.

It’s safe to assume Stuart had something to do with this, and — considering Ste is desperate to get out of the group — he’s likely very much in danger.

Jac Naylor and Elliot Hope in Holby City
Elliot is a welcome sight (Picture: BBC)

Holby City hospital (rather than Holby City the TV show) prepares to mark its 150th anniversary in tonight’s episode – and a beloved face from the past appears just in time to join in the celebrations. Professor Elliot Hope (Paul Bradley) comes to Holby to see Jac (Rosie Marcel) and is shocked to find that she is no longer Clinical Lead on Darwin. He’s also upset to find how fragile she is, as she faces a custody battle for her daughter and copes with recent traumas in her life. Elliot tries to support her – but he has his own reasons for coming back to Holby too.

As the 150th anniversary festivities get underway, Fletch (Alex Walkinshaw) has his hands full dealing with VIP guests. The last thing he needs is a disgruntled member of the public disturbing the proceedings, but he handles a difficult confrontation with his trademark skill and diplomacy. That’s not the end of the matter, though, as things take a very nasty turn indeed.

Ric Griffin (Hugh Quarshie) is recuperating well after his operation, but he seems to be gloomy about his future as a surgeon. Has Ric finally had enough?

10 episodes which have shaped Holby City as it airs its 1000th tonight

Holby City
(Picture: BBC)

It certainly doesn’t feel like it was way back in January that we celebrated Holby City’s 20th anniversary and 11 months down the line, tonight sees Holby City’s 1000th episode air. As well as the return of the much loved Professor Elliot Hope (Paul Bradley), the Holby City staff are also celebrating 150 years since the hospital opened and Jac Naylor (Rosie Marcel) prepares herself for her 1000th heart transplant.

When the first series aired in 1999 (which was only nine episodes long), the production set was only one set which is now Darwin Ward. As the show worked it’s way through the years, developing and growing the production set and growing as a show itself, it’s safe to say we’ve all seen our fair share of iconic episodes and whether you sit down tonight having watched every single episode of Holby City, you’re a completely new fan or you’ve been here for a while, it seems only right that we take a look back at ten episodes that helped shape and make the medical drama the success it is today.

Gina’s assisted suicide

Way back in 2006, Holby City aired scenes in which Professor Elliot Hope’s wife Gina travelled to Switzerland to end her life after living with motor neuron disease became too much for her. Initially Gina chose to go on her own but called Elliot and he flew over to Switzerland to be with her. Despite it being so early on in the show’s history, they certainly weren’t afraid to talk about taboo subjects and the story began many conversations on whether assisted suicide should be legalised in the UK.

Elliot’s wonderful life

It’s 2007, and after losing his wife, his son to drugs and his daughter who was shot, Elliot felt completely responsible and walked out of Holby wishing he’d never been born. As Elliot wandered out of the hospital grounds on a cold, snowy winters day, he met George, a stranger who takes him on a journey into his past to show him that he is a good man and should restore his faith in himself. ‘Elliot’s Wonderful Life’ saw the show step away from their usual format, showing bravery and it was clearly an effective episode for the show to decide to do another ‘out of the ordinary’ episode as recently viewers saw Ric Griffin’s (Hugh Quarshie) purgatory whilst he was enduring brain surgery and Diane Lloyd (Patricia Potter) and Ric’s son Leo (Daon Broni) returned from the dead.

Tan Twins separation

2008 saw conjoined twins separated by none other than Ric Griffin. This was ground-breaking for not only Holby City Hospital but Simon Harper, Executive Producer of Holby City and Casualty explained in an interview that the Tan Twins separation ‘transformed the scope and ambition of the way we tell guest stories’. Over 10 years on since the iconic episode, people are still talking about the separation of the Tan Twins.

Zosia March’s bipolar

Fast forward 6 years and in 2014, young junior Doctor Zosia March (Camilla Arfwedson) had a breakdown after being unable to deal with her mother’s death. Zosia displayed signs of erratic and manic behaviour and was diagnosed with bipolar. As the show continued it’s passion for raising awareness of taboo subjects, the storyline continued to look at what it’s like living with bipolar as well as the stigma attached to using treatment involving lithium. This was a mental health storyline in the modern era with the message behind it to get people talking – mental health charities and organisations gave the storyline acclaim, allowing Holby City to create more mental health storylines for characters to break the stigma and get more people talking.

Arthur Digby’s cancer

2016 saw the start of one of Holby City’s most memorable and most heartbreaking storylines. When Nurse Essie Harrison (Kaye Wragg) noticed a mole on Dr Arthur Digby’s (Rob Ostlere) back that showed the characteristics of melanoma, it wasn’t long before Arthur was diagnosed with cancer. This storyline allowed Holby City as a continuing drama to show Arthur’s cancer journey in a realistic time frame. This storyline resonated with a number of melanoma sufferers and Gillian Nuttall, founder of Melanoma UK, praised Holby City for raising awareness of the condition and mentioned that there was a significant increase in callers to their helpline.

The shooting episodes

As well as Holby City continuously succeeding in delivering powerful and effective storylines with subjects that need to be spoken about more, the show’s drama and action packed episodes certainly don’t go unnoticed. 2017 saw Henrik Hanssen’s (Guy Henry) son Fredrik (Billy Postlethwaite) go on a shooting spree within the hospital whilst it faced a major power cut. Whilst these two-part episodes saw the upsetting death of Raf di Lucca (Joe McFadden) and Oliver Valentine’s (James Anderson) recovery after being shot in the head by Fredrik, these episodes were packed full of drama, emotion and superb acting from everyone involved allowing us to see that when Holby wants to do dramatic, they really go all out and make sure they deliver episodes that we will never forget.

Sacha Levy Man Down

We know that when Holby City steps away from it’s usual format the episodes they deliver are always hugely successful and 2018 was no different for them. After struggling for some time, much loved Doctor Sacha Levy (Bob Barrett) took centre stage in an episode that looked at mental health issues and the stigma attached to it but specifically men’s mental health. A game changer episode for Holby City, it cleverly allowed us to see how Sacha truly felt during scenes where we originally saw him smiling and happy, highlighting just how easy it is to wear a mask when you are struggling.

NHS 70th birthday special

Holby City excels when they do drama, emotion, but one thing they are also very good at (and also one of the reasons why the show was created) is showing us what it’s like working in the NHS. A special episode titled ‘The Anniversary Waltz’ that aired in mid-2018 saw Holby City Hospital celebrate 70 years of the NHS. A special opening from some of the characters explaining what the NHS means to them was coupled with an extremely busy shift in the hospital when an outbreak of norovirus pushes the team to the limits. The show allowed us to see that when things go awry, the hospital staff are able to come together and work together for the sake of the patients that need their care.

Gaskell’s reign ends

Professor John Gaskell (Paul McGann) will go down as one of Holby City’s most evil characters and in 2018, a dramatic episode finally saw his reign come to an end after spending a year at the hospital trying to change the future of medicine. John spent a number of months at the hospital reversing patients long-term illnesses but when it came to helping Jac Naylor with her back pain after being shot by Fredrik, John’s downward spiral began when he announced that his research project could kill Jac. John’s final episode was the climax of a year-long storyline and an exciting, action-packed and tense episode, allowing us to see Holby City’s ability to take risks and break boundaries.

CasualtyXHolby

This year saw two very special episodes of Holby City and Casualty, as the shows crossed over and saw characters from both dramas work together. The shows crossed over for the first time in 14 years and part 2 saw the continuation of a hospital power cut, meaning iconic characters Jac and Connie Beauchamp (Amanda Mealing) went head to head to decide whether to operate on Iain Dean (Michael Stevenson) first or Sacha Levy. Despite the hospital being in complete turmoil with no power, failing machines and missing staff, Holby City were able to show just what our National Health Service is capable of and how vital it is to have it in our lives.

Executive Producer of Holby City and Casualty, Simon Harper spoke about his thoughts on 1000th episodes of the show and iconic episodes and storylines, telling Metro.co.uk: ‘Long running TV series like Holby are all about those iconic moments that will have people remembering years down the line – and provide the benchmark for the kind of characters and stories you want to create.  People still talk about Arthur’s exquisitely poignant death, Malick and Dan’s explosive kiss out of nowhere, Fredrik’s chilling gun rampage, Mo helping frenemy Jac through a traumatic labour, Connie and Elliot helping Gina to a dignified death in the Swiss euthanasia episode…the list goes on. All those moments were the dénouements of intense, slow-burn, character- driven storylines.

‘Holby still thrives after twenty years in an unrecognisably competitive TV landscape, which is a huge achievement to celebrate in this 20th anniversary year, and our 1000th episode captures all the qualities the audience love –  and is written by the brilliant Joe Ainsworth who has written for Holby since its beginning. It has that Holby-esque smart, sassy dialogue and humour, searing commentary on the state of the NHS  and the heroism of the staff who keep it going, voiced by hilarious guest star Marlene Sidaway – and a heartbreaking issue-driven story centred round the phenomenal Rosie Marcel as Jac. Not to forget of course the last and most anticipated of our anniversary returns in the form of Elliot, one of the show’s most beloved characters in its entire history. It’s quintessential Holby!’
