Sophie Webster (Brooke Vincent) in Coronation Street has become tired of living in Weatherfield with her dad Kevin (Michael Le Vell) and brother Jack (Kyran Bowes). Recently it looked as though she had found a new pathway in her life in the form of a business management course after turning down the offer to go travelling with Kate Connor (Faye Brookes). Upcoming episodes however see Sophie offered a large sum of money, will she forget about the business course and join Kate on her travels?
Paula (Stirling Gallacher) calls at No.13 and presents Sophie with a leather satchel and a new laptop for her first day at college. But when her phone pings with a photo from Kate on a sunny beach, she gazes at it wistfully, unaware Paula’s watching.
Sophie pores over her textbooks but it’s clear her new course isn’t really for her.
When Kevin’s sister Debbie (Sue Devaney) arrives at the garage looking for him, she breaks the news that their Auntie Vi has died and has left her £200k. Kevin is gobsmacked when Debbie says she wants him to have the money.
Kevin tells Debbie that he can’t accept the money and sensing that Sophie’s not enjoying her course, Debbie urges her to follow her heart and go travelling.
Kevin tells Debbie he intends to share the money equally between himself, Sophie, Rosie (Helen Flanagan) and Jack.
With Brooke Vincent leaving the show soon and going on maternity leave, it looks as though Sophie’s mind may be set more on going travelling rather than the business course. But what will this mean for Paula and her?
There’s nothing quite like the arrival of a new family to ruffle a few feathers in EastEnders, and that’s exactly what will transpire when new clan the Panesars show up in the Square during the coming episodes — and it’s Ben Mitchell (Max Bowden) whom they’re gunning for upon their arrival!
It was only a matter of time before Ben’s dodgy deals caught up with him, and — in the coming episodes — that’s exactly what transpires when both Jags (Amar Adatia) and Kheerat (Jaz Deol) arrive in Walford and threaten him because he’s stolen Kheerat’s car.
Jags and Kheerat are the first two of a trio of new brothers set to be introduced to EastEnders. Described by show bosses as ‘charming by nature – but a force to be reckoned with’, the Panesar clan are a British Asian family of Punjabi Sikh heritage and is comprised of siblings Kheerat, Jags and Vinny (Shiv Jalota).
Executive Producer Jon Sen hinted that — upon their arrival — the Panesars would feud with one of Walford’s big families.
Given that it’s Ben’s dodgy antics that bring them to Walford in the first place, it’s safe to assume that the clan they’ll be crossing paths with will be none other than the Mitchells.
What’s more, given that Ben’s not one to back down from a fight, it’s possible that this could be the beginning of a rivalry.
One to watch: Friday 4th October at 8pm on BBC One.
Rishi Sharma (Bhasker Patel) hasn’t had an easy time of it in Emmerdale as of late, but the businessman is set to face even more tribulations in the coming episodes, as he fears that he is responsible for a man’s death.
Several weeks ago, Rishi’s world came crashing down as his factory went up in flames. If that wasn’t a hard enough pill to swallow, his mate Frank (Michael Praed) was killed in the blaze, and the insurance refused to pay out due to him having disabled the fire alarm prior to the inferno. As a result, he was unable to make the payments to Kim (Claire King), so Jai (Chris Bisson) came up with an alternative arrangement that resulted in him losing his shares in the factory altogether.
Yes, it’s safe to say Rishi hasn’t had a great year thus far, and things go from bad to worse in the coming episodes, when Derek — one of Manpreet’s (Rebecca Sarker) patients — suddenly falls ill. Meanwhile, David’s (Matthew Wolfenden) is also feeling queasy, and claims that Rishi’s chocolates are to responsible — something which Rishi dismisses.
Later, Derek dies from what appears to be salmonella poisoning — and Rishi becomes incredibly concerned that there could be some truth to David’s statement. However, Jai reassures Rishi that what’s transpired is not his fault, but this does little to ease his dad’s fears.
Later, the Sharma’s get a call from the environmental health service — and they’re left shocked when they learn of who alerted the service about what’s gone on.
Jai points the finger at the Dingles — and their eggs — but Rishi prepares for the worst. What will transpire?
What’s more, who alerted the environmental health?
Meanwhile, Manpreet sorts through Derek’s belongings, and she looks up how much Derek’s stamp album is worth.
Could this perhaps be the solution to all of their problems?

Gary Windass (Mikey North) in Coronation Street is the latest villain to walk the cobbles and viewers have already seen what the builder is capable of when his buttons are pushed. We discovered back in May that Gary was responsible for the factory roof collapse and subsequent death of Rana Habeeb (Bhavna Limbachia) and we also saw Gary murder evil loan shark Rick Neelan (Greg Wood) after he attempted to murder Gary.
Whilst Gary hasn’t murdered anyone else (yet), there’s certainly a list of people who are skating on very thin ice with him.
Here are the six people that Gary Windass could kill next:
Ryan Connor
Probably the most obvious out of them all, Ryan Connor (Ryan Prescott) has been involved with Gary since he stole money out of a desk drawer that happened to be Gary’s. With paying Gary the money back (with interest) becoming more and more difficult, this week Gary attacked Ryan after discovering he had a DJ job and was cashing in whilst still owing Gary hundreds. This week we also saw Adam (Sam Robertson) hire a private detective to follow Gary and when Adam confronted Ryan and asked him about Gary attacking him, he denied it and stuck to the story of him being mugged.
If Adam manages to figure out that Gary killed Rick and tells Ryan about it, could Ryan confront Gary on Adam’s accusation, forcing Gary to kill Ryan in order to silence him?
Derek Milligan
The next obvious person on the list is fake businessman Derek Milligan (Craige Els) who, like Ryan, is very good at getting on the wrong side of Gary. Derek was introduced as an investor for the factory but it didn’t take long for viewers to learn that Derek’s identity was fake and is infact working for Gary.
Recently, we’ve seen Derek take an interest in Gary’s ex Izzy Armstrong (Cherylee Houston) which of course didn’t sit well with Gary.
After attacking Ryan in Monday’s episode, Gary threatened Derek and said that the same thing will happen to him if he doesn’t stay away from Izzy. It’s clear Derek isn’t afraid of doing things that will anger Gary – will he push him too far?
Adam Barlow
He’s the solicitor determined to expose Gary for who he really is but so far Adam Barlow (Sam Robertson) hasn’t had a lot of luck in finding evidence that allows people to see Gary’s true colours. This week he attempted to use a private investigator to follow Gary but once Gary found out what he was up to, he soon had the private investigator on his side.
We have seen Gary threaten Adam in the past and with his determination to reveal Gary’s secrets, will Gary murder Adam as he gets too close to the truth?
Imran Habeeb
Adam Barlow’s sidekick Imran Habeeb (Charlie De Melo) could be the next person that gets on the wrong side of Gary. Unable to deal with the guilt, Gary confessed to Imran that he was responsible for the factory roof collapse and death of Imran’s sister Rana.
Tonight’s episode sees Imran point out the parallel to Rick going missing after dealings with Gary. With Imran and Adam working well together, could Gary kill Imran to threaten Adam?
Sarah Platt
(Picture: ITV)
Gary and Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien) were together before Gary became Coronation Street’s latest villain and split up after Sarah learnt about the debt Gary was in. Sarah had a hunch that Gary was responsible for the factory roof collapse and with her relationship with Adam going well, could Adam tell her his thoughts on Gary killing Rick?
Gary is certainly capable of a lot now, but we don’t think he would go through with murdering Sarah, perhaps killing her accidentally?
Izzy Armstrong
Whilst Izzy is pretty low down on the list of who Gary could kill next, her connection with Derek means there is a possibility he could reveal his true identity to her. We already know he has a problem with alcohol, so if Derek reveals all whilst drunk, would Gary go to a whole new low and murder the mother of his child to make sure she doesn’t go to the police?
Bethany Platt
It’s no secret that Lucy Fallon is set to exit the show as Bethany – and the tragic death of her daughter would absolutely destroy Sarah. While Gary has yet to enter the territory of murdering someone to get back at a person who loves them, he did seem to enjoy giving Ryan a heavy beating.
As he gets more and more driven by violence and power, could he make Sarah pay the ultimate price for dumping him and settling down with Adam by having a fatal showdown with Bethany, whose final scenes air next year?
It’s safe to say anyone who gets on the wrong side of Gary should start looking over their shoulder. Gary hasn’t murdered anyone yet, but with the way things are going, we don’t think it’ll be long before he strikes again…
Robbo is trying to find Dylan Carter for the Ouroboros crime gang (Picture: Channel 5)
Robbo (Jake Ryan) has been desperately trying to get the Ouroboros crime gang off his back by looking into where Dylan Carter (Jeremy Lindsay Taylor) could possibly be. After coming up with no leads, he decides to take matters into his own hands by putting together a fake death certificate and coroner’s report.
He rings up Des (Matt Zeremes) and says he’s got a lead on Carter, then meets up with some of the group in Salt to hand over the document. The situation is tense as Des reads through the documents, trying to work out if they’re genuine. Eventually, he tells Robbo that he knows they’re fake, and he now realises Robbo is incapable of finding Carter. This means that Robbo is of no use to the gang…and he and Jasmine (Sam Frost) can be disposed of.
A terrified Robbo tries to backtrack, aware that his wife’s life is in more danger than ever. He pleads for the chance to work with the gang to find Carter, as they can combine the gang’s intel and his resources as a cop. However, Des doesn’t give him a reply and drives away, leaving Robbo fearful about what they might do next.
Robbo can’t find any leads on Dylan Carter (Picture: Channel 5)
Meanwhile, a car driving down a deserted road abruptly pulls over, and a body is tossed to the ground. The ouroboros symbol has been slashed into his chest. Before too long, he’s rushed into hospital, and the new head of ED – Alex Neilson (Zoe Ventoura) – takes charge. Scott (Trent Baines), who is with Jasmine at the hospital, sees the symbol on the man’s chest and relays this to Robbo, who races to the hospital to question him.
However, despite the hospital’s best efforts, the man begins flat lining and passes away before Robbo can speak to him. Robbo searches the body and finds a mobile phone with a voice recording on it from one of Dylan Carter’s guys…have the Ouroboros gang given Robbo the lead he was looking for?
Moira Dingle (Natalie J Robb) caused quite the stir in Emmerdale when she revealed the truth about Harriet Finch’s (Katherine Dow Blyton) secret relationship with Will Taylor (Dean Andrews). However, it didn’t Harriet long to retaliate, as she reminded Moira about the numerous skeletons she’s got in her own closet — a comment which almost sounded like a threat. With Harriet having knowledge of what really happened in regards to Emma Barton’s (Gillian Kearney) demise, could Moira’s secret finally come to light?
After finding her son Matty (Ash Palmisciano) smoking weed, Moira was seething — but her anger reached new levels when she realised that Harriet’s new beau was a former drug trafficker.
Having put two and two together — and evidently come up with the wrong answer — she headed round to the church and interrupted the Harvest Festival proceedings, where she humiliated Harriet in front of her congregation by informing everyone that their vicar was dating a drug dealer.
Moira’s erratic and uncharacteristic behaviour came as a shock not only to the villagers, but also to viewers at home — many of whom took to social media to vent their frustration at Moira’s cruel actions.
Can’t wait for Moira’s lies to come tumbling down around her. She was vile & the way she attacked Harriet was uncalled for. At least we didn’t have to endure Nate tonight #Emmerdale
#Emmerdale Moria is being petty. Just because she thinks Will supplied the weed to Matty, she outs Harriet and Will’s relationship and Will’s past as a drug trafficker
Moira is a hypocrite too as she’s on about honesty, but she’s sleeping with Nate behind Cain’s back 😡😡😡
Of course, the main reason viewers were so baffled by Moira’s antics is that the character is far from perfect herself — especially when you consider that she’s currently engaging in a steamy affair with farmhand Nate (Jurrell Carter) behind husband Cain’s (Jeff Hordley) back. Knowing more about Moira than most, Harriet was quick to remind her of her imperfections when she later confronted her up at Butler’s farm — much to Moira’s dismay.
Yes, the vicar berated Moira for taking the moral high ground when she herself has more skeletons in her closet than most — a comment which could well have been a threat on Harriet’s part.
While viewers are aware that Moira’s sleeping with Nate, few villagers know about the affair, which means that the great big secret that Harriet is referring to is Moira having murdered Emma.
While Harriet never explicitly stated that she was planning on revealing Moira’s big secret, the subtext was certainly there — something which Moira picked up on, and she was fuming as a result.
Will Harriet will reveal the truth?
The vicar has become something of a pariah as a result of Moira’s actions, so threatening Moira with the prospect of exposing her secret could be the leverage she needs in order to restore her reputation.
What’s more, let’s not forget that Harriet used to be a copper, so — in spite of her approachable and kind demeanour — she knows how to play the game better than most.
Secrets always have a nasty habit of coming out in soaps, and given that few villagers are actually aware of Moira’s crime, Harriet has Moira exactly where she wants her.
The question is: will she follow through with her threat?
Emmerdale continues on Friday 27th September at 7pm on ITV.
After discovering that Kel abused Paul Foreman (Peter Ash) as a teenager, Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank) will tonight fear that the predator could strike again after spotting him with Chesney Brown’s (Sam Aston) young son Joseph. As the vicar tries to get through to Paul that he was abused, is he right to be afraid that Kel still poses a danger?
It emerged to fans that Kel had a secret relationship with an underage Paul while dating Bernie (Jane Hazlegrove) and then disappeared from the family after Paul was pushed over the edge and snapped. However, his mum and sister Gemma (Dolly Rose Campbell) remain oblivious to what he went through.
Paul has opened up to Billy and when Billy is afraid after seeing Kel spending time with Joseph, Paul snaps at Billy that his relationship with Kel was consensual and orders him to back off. It becomes clear that Paul felt he was in love with Kel but Billy tries to get through to him that he was groomed and taken advantage of.
Later, Paul spends time with the family, including Kel, and finds himself enjoying the experience, which leaves him more confused and torn than ever. But when he makes a pass at Kel next week, he realises that Kel only ever found him attractive as a teenage boy.
As the truth of what Billy has said hits home to a traumatised Paul, he will lash out and brutally attack Kel, leaving him unconcious. After the violent altercation, Kel will decide not to press charges, evidently worried that his own dark secrets will come to the fore.
It remains to be seen whether Paul will take the brave step of trying to bring sinister Kel to justice – and whether the evil abuser will strike again, putting another Street youngster in serious peril.
Coronation Street continues on Friday 27th September at 7:30pm on ITV.
Television viewing habits have changed dramatically over the last few years. The introduction of streaming and catch-up services — aka on-demand entertainment — has given viewers not only plenty to choose from in terms of entertainment, but it’s also given them the choice of when, where and how they wish to view it.
Soaps are one genre that have been dramatically affected by this change. There was once a time when EastEnders and Coronation Street were the highest viewed programmes in the country, but due to the ever-changing way in which we consume telly, this is no longer the case.
According to research undertaken by Inside Soap, only a third of Brits — 33% — choose to watch their soaps live, but will often record them or catch up later, while 28% prefer to record or watch back online to exercise more control over their viewing their time. Additonally, only 24% will always aim to watch live.
Soap viewing habits in order of popularity:
I prefer to see them live, but sometimes record them or watch them on catch up
I always record them or watch on catch-up, so I control when I see them
I always try to watch them live, as and when they are on
A common misconception is that declining overnight viewing figures is a result of a decline in standard and, while there no doubt has been some truth to this in the past, it’s impossible to make such an assumption in a day and age where we can watch what we want at a time that suits us.
As the above stats suggest, in today’s world, telly fits into our schedules — as opposed to the other way round. So, while overnight ratings may not be what they once where, soaps are still very much a huge draw for UK viewers, it’s just that, more often than not, there’s less urgency to watch them as and when they air. What’s more, viewership figures increase when views on catch-up services such as BBC iPlayer and ITV Hub are factored in.
All you need to do is take a quick peek at the iPlayer, for example, and — surrounded by juggernauts such as Peaky Blinders and Strictly Come Dancing — you’ll find the latest episodes of EastEnders thriving in the ‘Most Popular’ section of the service.
Of course, one of the many reasons viewers are still so fond of programmes such as EastEnders, Corrie and Emmerdale, is that they’ve been home to some of the most iconic characters not only in soap, but in British drama as a whole. Speaking of which — in addition to UK soap viewing habits — Inside Soap has also revealed viewers’ favourite ‘gone but not forgotten’ characters.
Favourite 'gone but not forgotten' soap characters
Jack and Vera Duckworth, Coronation Street
Peggy Mitchell, EastEnders
Grant Mitchell, EastEnders
Bet Lynch, Coronation Street
Frank Butcher, EastEnders
Deirdre Barlow, Coronation Street
Seth Armstrong, Emmerdale
Andy Sugden, Emmerdale
Jack Sugden, Emmerdale
Carl King, Emmerdale
With the exception of a few heavy-hitters — Game Of Thrones, for example — almost all programming has been impacted by the ever-changing pattern of how we consume telly. As a result, ratings have suffered, but that doesn’t mean there’s no longer a place for soaps.
In fact, if you factor in the acclaim bestowed upon EastEnders recently for its big September launch, the praise that Hollyoaks received for its far-right extremism narrative, and the emotional response to Sinead’s cancer diagnosis in Corrie, then it’s rather the opposite, isn’t it?
The Inside Soap Awards are set to take place on October 7th.
Whitney Dean (Shona McGarty) has had the year from hell in EastEnders, after her wedding ended in disaster when Callum ‘Halfway’ Highway (Tony Clay) revealed that he’d slept with Ben Mitchell (Max Bowden). However, she makes a return to the Square tonight — and she’s got some big news in store for her ex-fiancé.
After Callum revealed he’d cheated on her with Ben, Whitney was left heartbroken. She made every attempt to carry on with the wedding but ultimately she was unable to do so, and — after informing Callum that neither of them deserve to settle for second best — she parted ways with her fiancé and decided to jet off on her honeymoon by herself.
With a couple of weeks having passed since the wedding-that-never-was, Whitney returns to Walford in tonight’s episode, leaving Callum in shock.
Callum and Ben argue (Picture: BBC)
The holiday has done Whitney the world of good, and she’s seemingly a lot more content than she was before setting off. Upon her return to the Square, the young woman shows up at the flat where she lived with Callum prior to their break-up, but she makes it clear early on that she’s only here to collect her belongings.
However, before long, she has a heart-to-heart with Callum — and the young lad is taken aback when she drops a huge bombshell.
But what exactly is it that Whitney reveals?
Unable to process what he’s just learned, Callum heads to the Vic to drown his sorrows. Jay (Jamie Borthwick) attempts to console him but his plan ultimately backfires, resulting in Callum making a beeline for the Mitchell household so that he can confront Ben — whom he blames for everything.
Mitchell Deveraux is embroiled in romance-related drama in Hollyoaks (Picture: Lime Pictures)
Mitchell Deveraux (Imran Adams) is at the centre of one of Hollyoaks’ biggest stories of the year right now, facing a romantic dilemma that could spell the end for his relationship with girlfriend Cleo McQueen (Nadine Mulkerrin).
The young doctor is attracted to Scott Drinkwell’s (Ross Adams) drag persona in the soap, developing feelings for his new friend after supporting him through a breakup with Dr Levi Rochester (Cerith Flinn).
Levi abruptly ended the relationship and made her unwelcome opinions on drag artists clear, causing Scott to find solace in Mitchell’s assurances that he would find someone who fully accepted him.
When Mitchell confided in Scott following an argument with Cleo, the pair exchanged a kiss – leaving Mitchell confused and unsure about his true feelings.
He has admitted to Scott that he doesn’t really know what his feelings mean, drawing an unimpressed response from his potential lover, who lambasts him for getting drunk to deal with his situation.
Will Mitchell and Scott become a couple in Hollyoaks?
Urged to declare his intentions by Scott, Mitchell concludes that he does have strong feelings for him.
Perhaps understandably, that news causes Scott to implore Mitchell to choose between him and Cleo.
We might have a clue as to how things turn out based on the imminent departure of Cleo, with actress Nadine set to leave the set on maternity leave soon.
Discussing the reception the storyline has received from audiences, Hollyoaks’ Imran says he has been encouraged by the response from LGBT groups and viewers as a whole.
Mitchell’s dad, Walter (Trevor A Toussaint), could find it hard to accept his son’s choice if Mitchell decides to officially become an item with Scott.
Earlier this month, his daughter, Martine (Kelle Bryan), confronted Walter and accused him of homophobic behaviour in a scene that also suggested Mitchell could be a twin.
‘It’s like Imran opens himself up and you see inside him – he is so raw. I cannot believe our luck with that actor and to play alongside people so loved like Ross Adams and Nadine Mulkerrin and equal them is amazing.
‘No-one is a villain. What is both beautiful and tragic about this story is that both Scott and Mitchell are compromising themselves for love and that’s what’s so engaging.
‘That story is going to run and run; it’s one of my favourites. The feedback from our digital team is that our audience love it because they haven’t seen it before.’
But Billy (Daniel Brocklebank), who knows the secret, has been trying to help Paul see the truth.
In upcoming scenes, a drunk Paul will confront Kel and try to kiss him.
When Kel pushes him away, and Paul will come to realise that Kel had only been interested in him as a young boy.
In a sudden and understandable rage, Paul will hit Kel and knock him out.
Paul will then hurry away from the scene, leaving Kel unconscious on the ground.
Could this be the end for the child abuser? Or will Kel be back to cause Paul more turmoil?
Coronation Street continues on Friday night on ITV at 7.30pm.

Nate Robinson (Jurell Carter) has made it clear to Moira Dingle (Natalie J Robb) that he has had enough of being rejected by her and is refusing to play second fiddle to her husband Cain (Jeff Hordley) in Emmerdale. While Moira has been indulging in passion with the younger farm hand while Cain has been away, the anniversary of Holly’s death gave her time to reflect and she realised what she would be throwing away.
However, possessive Nate was not having it and told her that he didn’t want to be pushed to the sidelines now that Cain was back. Cain walked in and sensed the tension between them. As Nate threateningly implied that he was going to spill the beans, Cain told him that it was the anniversary of Holly’s death and he should back off.
Later finding himself alone with Moira, Nate told her that he wasn’t a mind reader and she should have talked to him. But Moira shut him down, unhappy with him thinking that he could call the shots – and she told them their arrangement was over.
(Picture: ITV)
However, it’s not as easy as that as Nate made it quite clear that he wasn’t going to back away so Moira shut him down and told him that her marriage to Cain is much better than whatever they had together – it’s over.
Judging from the seething look on Nate’s face as Moira walked away from him, Nate could be considering destroying her marriage – and Emmerdale recently confirmed that a showdown with Cain is imminent next month as he finally discovers the shocking truth of the betrayal.
However, before that happens, Moira will once again succumb to Nate’s advances as they go away together – but this proves to be a colossal mistake as she leaves her phone behind and Pete Barton (Anthony Quinlan) discovers what’s been going on from the messages…
It’s getting colder outside, but things are heating up in Walford! The leaves are dropping, and so is our Autumn trailer. #EastEnderspic.twitter.com/yo5Q9xbyca
EastEnders has dropped its autumn trailer and there is a lot to dissect in the three minute video with Sharon Mitchell’s (Letitia Dean) feud with Mel Owen (Tamzin Outhwaite) ending in disaster, Ben Mitchell (Max Bowden) and Martin Fowler (James Bye) ending up up to their necks in crime and the debut of the Panesar family.
As the autumn storylines explode, Mel’s exit is just around the corner – and she promises Mel that all of this will soon be over. And by promising on her life, is she sealing her own tragic fate? The trailer shows Phil (Steve McFadden) and Louisa (Tilly Keeper) oblivious while Sharon and Keanu Taylor (Danny Walters) fear the worst.
Aside from this almighty clash, Ben’s relationship with Callum Highway (Tony Clay) continues to develop – forcing Callum to finally stand up to his homophobic father. And Whitney Dean (Shona McGarty) is moving on too – into possibly her most disastrous relationship yet.
Ahead of their upcoming wedding, Keegan Baker (Zack Morris) and Tiffany Butcher (Maisie Smith) are on Cloud Nine after spending the night together but other couples are heading for trouble as Honey Mitchell (Emma Barton) is forced to face the truth about Adam Bateman (Stephen Rahman-Hughes) while Chantelle Atkins (Jessica Plummer) faces more tension from her violent husband Gray (Toby Alexander Smith).
(Picture: BBC/Metro.co.uk)
The Carters are also facing new struggles as Mick (Danny Dyer) and Linda (Kellie Bright) do their best to unite for Ollie while Shirley (Linda Henry) is standing up for the clan in her own unique and fierce way.
Martin is up to his neck in it as the Slaters struggle without Stacey (Lacey Turner) and Jean (Gillian Wright) has her own problems as she falls for Daniel Cook (Ade Edmondson) – a man who clearly isn’t long for this world.

After struggling to deal with Ben’s (Rohan Nichol) depression following a police investigation into international drug trafficking, which he was framed for and is struggling to get out of, Maggie (Kestie Morassi) had a heated argument with her husband. The end result was an ultimatum – get help or you’ve got to go – and Ben responded by leaving the family home.
At the caravan park, Ben’s mood dips even further after walking out on his family. Alf (Ray Meagher) stops by with fresh towels and asks if he had a fight with Maggie. Seeing that something is going on with Ben, Alf invites him up to the house, but Ben pushes him away.
Ben is then confronted by Dean (Patrick O’Connor), who spots him in the park and asks him why he’s ignoring Ziggy (Sophie Dillman) and Maggie’s calls. Ben lashes out, telling Dean to mind his own business as he isn’t part of the family. Then he retreats back into his van…

Meanwhile, Maggie and Ziggy clash over how to deal with Ben. While Maggie wants to leave him to it, Ziggy wants to take a more head-on approach. When Dean calls her to reveal where Ben has gone, she goes to the caravan park and tells him he needs to come home and sort the situation out like an adult.
However, Ben says he knows he’s hurting his family, but he needs some space to sort his head out. Ziggy refuses to leave and sits in silence with him until he breaks down, saying he can’t deal with the pressure. Ziggy respects his wishes to be alone and heads home.
Ziggy walks through the door to see Maggie break down in tears. After trying to keep herself busy, but seeing reminders of Ben everywhere she turns, she can’t cope any more. She tells Ziggy that she didn’t think Ben would actually leave – she just wanted him to get professional help. Meanwhile, back at the caravan park, a tortured Ben looks at his phone, trying to decide if he should reach out to Maggie, but he eventually gives up, choosing to retreat again instead…

Ted Murray (Christopher Timothy) could be getting driven to his death in EastEnders as his new romance Wanda (Anni Domingo) whisked him off on a round the world trip. He nearly decided against taking the plunge and heading on the adventure but Bernie Taylor (Clair Norris) urged him to grab the opportunity.
He packed things and shared goodbyes with his friends while Wanda finally got suspicious Denise Fox (Diane Parish) on side as she opend up about really liking Ted and wanting some companionship in his life.
The taxi arrived and Wanda climbed in as Ted bade farwell to the Taylors and his best mate Patrick Trueman (Rudolph Walker). As he looked to Denise for reassurance that he was doing the right thing, she told him he wouldn’t need to be wished luck.
With a smile he got into the car but as it drove off, a look of worried uncertainty crossed his expression. Meanwhile, as Denise reflected that she was glad to see him find some happiness, Sheree (Suzette Llewellyn) said she hoped her mum too would find some peace after the court case.
Denise looked stunned as Sheree went on to explain that she had to go to court due to suspicions around the death of her husband but it was all thrown out. As Sheree walked away, Denise wondered if Wanda could be trusted after all.
Is Ted heading to his own doom?
EastEnders has confirmed that these were indeed Christopher’s final scenes so perhaps we’ll never know! In a statement, a spokesperson told Metro.co.uk: ‘We wish Christopher all the very best for the future.’
After some time away to gather her thoughts, Whitney Dean (Shona McGarty) returned to Walford in tonight’s episode of EastEnders, and she brought with her a huge bombshell — she’s got a new lover — and Callum ‘Halfway’ Highway (Tony Clay) was left devastated as a result. However, a much bigger bombshell came later when it was revealed that the identity of her secret boyfriend was none other than Leo King (Tom Wells) — the son of sex abuser Tony (Chris Coghill).
After Callum came clean about his night of passion with Ben (Max Bowden), Whitney was left heartbroken. Although she attempted to carry on with the wedding, she was ultimately unable to do so, and — with some persuasion from Bianca (Patsy Palmer) —she decided to jet off on her honeymoon by herself, in order to gather her thoughts.
With a couple of weeks having passed since the wedding-that-never-was, Whitney returned during tonight’s episode — and Callum was shocked as a result. The pair chatted, and it soon became clear that there was no animosity between them — rather the opposite, actually, as Whitney commented how happy she was that Callum was now free to be himself.
However, it soon became apparent that Whit was harbouring a secret of her own and, before long, she came clean, revealing to her ex-fiancé that she met someone while on the honeymoon — and she couldn’t be happier as a result.
Callum was distraught, and he ultimately sought solace in Ben, but the biggest moment of the episode arrived at the end, as an excited Whitney exited Dot’s (June Brown) house to greet her new fella — who’d just arrived in the Square. It was here that it was revealed that her new man is Leo King — aka the son of Tony, who abused her a decade ago.
Viewers know that Leo has refused to believe the truth about Tony being a paedophile — and spent weeks threatening Bianca in order to try and prove that his dad is innocent, in spite of the evidence against him — so he’s no doubt targeting Whitney as a means of revenge.
The question is: will Whitney figure out who he is before it’s too late?
EastEnders continues on Monday 30th September at 8pm on BBC One.
Coronation Street viewers praised emotional Peter Ash scenes (Picture: ITV)
Coronation Street viewers have been full of praise for Peter Ash’s performance as Paul Foreman, after his character opened up about being sexually abused by his stepdad, Kel (Joseph Alessi).
In emotional scenes from tonight’s instalment, Paul told Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank) the truth about what happened with Kel, explaining they had a secret sexual relationship when he was just 14-years-old.
Speaking about what happened between them, Billy tried to get through to Paul that he was abused, while worrying that the predator could be about to strike again on the cobbles.
And viewers watching on at home flocked to Twitter to rave about the powerful scenes.
‘What a performance by the actor who plays Paul in #Corrie #Peterash such a difficult storyline to get across but you did it,’ a fan commented.
‘The importance of that is that someone might understand more about child sexual abuse now. The abuse is, the twisted love, and then lack of it for himself.
‘Well done to Peter @PeterAsh_85 and Daniel @Dan_Brocklebank on your incredible scenes in tonight’s hour long episode of Corrie,’ a follower said.
‘I am delighted that Paul has Billy supporting him, I can’t wait to see what happens next. I hope you both have a great weekend I’m so proud of you both.’
‘How amazing is @PeterAsh_85 tonight? Such a stunning performance both powerful and sensitive. Well done Peter. It’s brilliant to get to see you shine #Corrie #Paul,’ another posted.
There are more emotional scenes set to air next week (Picture: ITV)
While a Twitter user wrote: ‘Those Paul/Billy scenes were devastating to watch. Amazing acting from Peter & Daniel #Corrie.’
And one added: ‘@PeterAsh_85 simply beautiful performance tonight on #Corrie mate.’
There are still more emotional scenes to come next week, as Paul struggles to come to terms with the truth, and drunkenly makes a pass as Kel, who snubs his advances.
But how far will he go to get justice? And will it be too late for another Corrie youngster?

Luckily, Ollie has made friends with Rosa (Jacey Salles) during his stay in hospital and he invites her to the house, hoping that she can help to build bridges with his father. But when David has to go to work, Ollie persuades Rosa to go for a walk – against David’s instructions because of Ollie’s recent surgery – and one of them ends up back in the ED as a patient. How will David react?
Rash (Neet Mohan) wants to stay in Holby to be close to his dad, who still isn’t coping very well after the death of Rash’s mum. He desperately needs to secure a good reference from Ethan (George Rainsford) for the CT1 position, otherwise he’ll have to move to another hospital. Ethan asks him to supervise Mason (Victor Oshin)’s work for the day, but with all the bad blood between the two of them will Rash get the chance to step up and impress, or will Mason hold him back?
New paramedic Lev (Uriel Emil) makes quite the impression on Jan (Di Botcher) and Ruby (Maddy Hill) – but not in the way he might have wanted. Will he prove that he can be an asset to the team? And will Ruby stop sneezing for long enough to decide whether she likes him or not?

Two of this week’s guest characters start the episode by riding electric scooters. ‘They look like death traps,’ one of them observes and it’s obviously an accident waiting to happen, but as usual things turn out to be considerably more complicated than that. This is Casualty, after all.
