Coronation Street’s Katie McGlynn asked for Sinead Tinker to be killed off following cancer diagnosis

Coronation Street’s Katie McGlynn has revealed she asked soap bosses to kill off her character Sinead Tinker following her heartbreaking cancer diagnosis.

The actress, who denied having a blazing row with Love Island’s Maura Higgins at last night’s TV Choice Awards, explained to Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield on This Morning that she didn’t want to give Sinead a happy ending in order to be true to life.

Katie began: ‘I was talking to Ian [ MacLeod] and Kate [Oates] originally about this story because initially I had a meeting with Kate and said, “I think I might want to leave, I’ve been there for so long and I’ve not had that big of a story.”

‘They told me this storyline and I thought this is amazing, please do this.

‘Then we talked about the ending of it and I was just sat there and I said, “I want her to die.”‘

Katie continued: ‘I know it sounds very sadistic but I wanted her to die because that’s real life and life isn’t a fairytale.

‘Loads of women are dying, so many people are affected by cancer and this storyline triggers so many emotions for so many people because it’s absolutely heartbreaking.’

Coronation Street confirmed Sinead’s death from cervical cancer last week, with the character only recently discovering that her cancer had returned and that she only has a number of months to live.

Spoilers have revealed that in upsetting upcoming scenes, the character decides to arrange a visit with a hospice she’s considering to spend her remaining weeks.

After being shown around, husband Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard) admits that as her husband he wants to care for Sinead at home until the bitter end.

Coronation Street continues on Wednesday at 7.30pm on ITV.

Cleo McQueen (Nadine Mulkerrin)’s not had the easiest time of it in Hollyoaks of late.

Not content with having to come to terms with her ex Joel Dexter’s secret romance with Goldie McQueen, her current boyfriend MItchell Deveraux (Imran Adams) is now harbouring secret feelings for Scott Drinkwell (Ross Adams) – and could even cheat on her with him.

Her life onscreen may well be in turmoil – but viewers are also wondering whether Cleo might be about to hear the patter of tiny feet also.

Is the character pregnant, on top of everything else she has to contend with?

Here’s what you need to know…

Is Cleo McQueen pregnant in Hollyoaks?

There isn’t set to be a baby in Cleo’s world any time soon as the character is not pregnant – but Nadine Mulkerrin, who plays her, is indeed expecting.

The 25-year-old broke the happy news ahead of the British Soap Awards in June, showing off a photo of her evening gown-clad baby bump as she and fiance Rory Douglas-Speed prepared to set off to the ceremony.

https://www.instagram.com/p/ByLFGUyHZi-/?utm_source=ig_embed

Posting the snap on Instagram she commented: ‘That’s us three ready for the @thebritishsoapawards’.

The couple – who have been dating since 2017, and moved in together last year – were swamped with congratulatory comments from followers as Nadine’s pregnancy was revealed.

Last year they delighted fans further after announcing their engagement – after a romantic trip away to Amsterdam.

How will Cleo McQueen exit the soap as Nadine goes on maternity leave?

The actress recently revealed that her exit storyline will involve Mitchell’s developing feelings for Scott.

‘We’re only just starting with the storyline, but I’m excited about it and I think it’s going to be really good,’ she told Digital Spy.

‘I definitely think the story will be explored sensitively. We want the LGBTQ+ community to like it, so it will be told in a way that’s respectful.’

The actress has been a part of the soap as Cleo McQueen since 2015.

Hollyoaks airs weeknights on Channel 4 at 6.30pm, with new episodes weeknights on E4 at 7pm.

You’re missing out on your usual dose of Emmerdale on Tuesday night (Picture: ITV)

If it’s a weeknight, then it’s usually the case that Emmerdale is on our screens.

The show has become a ubiquitous part of the ITV schedules for the 47 years it’s been on air, with new episodes normally arriving like clockwork at 7pm every night.

Except tonight things are different – as it’s missing from the schedules. Say it ain’t so!

Just what’s become of our nightly dose of Emmerdale, and when’s it coming back?

Here’s what you need to know…

Why is Emmerdale not on tonight and what is on instead?

Emmerdale is taking a break from the airwaves tonight to make way for the Euro 2020 qualifier between England and Kosovo.

Although the kick off in the match, at Southampton’s St Mary’s Stadium, is not until 7.45pm, the live coverage begins on ITV at 7pm.

It’s the first time that England have played Kosovo – ranked 120th in the world – with the side having only been recognised by Fifa in 2016.

Euro 2020 will take place next year from 12 June to 12 July, with matches being held in 12 cities across the continent to celebrate the tournament’s 60th anniversary.

Among those who will be hosting matches are Rome – who will host the opening game at Stadio Olimpico – Amsterdam, Baku, Bilbao, Bucharest, Budapest, Copenhagen, Dublin, Glasgow, Munich and Saint Petersburg.

The semi-finals and final, meanwhile, will take place at London’s Wembley Stadium.

When is Emmerdale back on?

The good news is that Emmerdale won’t be taking a back seat to the football for long – as it’s back in its usual timeslot on Wednesday night at 7pm.

What happened to Tony King in EastEnders and where is he now?

Leo King’s appearance in Albert Square could spell trouble for Bianca (Picture: BBC)

Bianca Butcher (Patsy Palmer) is being plagued by the reappearance in her life of Leo King (Tom Wells) – whom she recently discovered is the son of her evil ex Tony King.

Long-term EastEnders viewers will remember that paedophile Tony groomed and abused Whitney Dean (Shona McGarty) in EastEnders – and then turned his attentions to Lauren Branning (Jacqueline Jossa) before his abuse of Whitney was finally exposed.

Leo’s convinced his dad is innocent and is looking to clear his name – but where is Tony now, and what happened to him?

Here’s what you need to know…

What happened to Tony King in EastEnders?

Tony, who was played by Chris Coghill, was introduced into the series in 2008 as Bianca’s boyfriend.

Despite appearing to be the perfect boyfriend he was revealed to have been grooming Whitney, and having a sexual relationship with her.

Chris Coghill as Tony King in EastEnders

He was subsequently found out when, having convinced Whitney they would run away together when she turned 16, she booked flights for them to leave and then told Bianca, genuinely believing she and Tony would leave together.

Tony was arrested after Bianca called the police, later visiting their home on bail in an attempt to convince Whitney not to give a statement to the police – leading to Ricky (Sid Owen) attacking him and him being re-arrested for breaching his bail conditions.

Tony attempted suicide prior to his trial, while he also tried to contact Whitney by phone – with Whitney saying she would refuse to testify and would claim her statement was a lie.

Only after Bianca explained to Whitney that if Tony was found not guilty he would be set free to target other children did she agree to appear in court.

There she revealed the truth about Tony, saying she trusted him and he abused her – and gave her barrister a phone with messages from him on it as evidence.

Tony was subsequently found guilty and was given 13 years in prison.

Where is Tony King now?

The character was not seen in the show again after being found guilty – but we learned three years later that he had killed himself in prison.

That came to light after Whitney received a note from one of his fellow convicts, saying that he had always loved her.

The storyline is set to come to the fore again with the arrival of Leo, and his determination to prove his dad was innocent of his crimes.

With Bianca’s refusal to give in to Leo’s demands, we can expect to see a lot more of him around Walford – which would fit in with recent promises from show bosses that Whitney’s about to be involved in a major two-year plotline.

What will Leo do next? You’ll just have to keep watching…

EastEnders continues on Tuesday 10 September at 7:30pm on BBC One.

(Picture: BBC)

Chantelle Atkins (Jessica Plummer) has been left feeling frightened and trapped as she is pregnant with Gray Atkins’ (Toby Alexander Smith) baby – a discovery she made not long after he violently attacked her once again in EastEnders.

The pair already have a family together but her pregnancy complicates matters as their marriage is toxic, with Gray’s promise that moving to the area would help him change and that he would seek help.

Despite this, Chantelle has been forced to hide the darkness of her true life behind closed doors from her family and friends as Gray regularly beats, verbally abuses and controls her. After his work trip, he has been unsettled to see Chantelle recover some of her self confidence, especially after getting through to the finals in the beautician competition.

Feeling worried by her taking a stand against his veiled orders that they go home, he deliberately destroyed her certificate but he was left seething when Chantelle then wanted them all to go to the party at the Taylors’ to celebrate Keanu (Danny Walters) having his name cleared.

After they returned, Chantelle tried to stand up to Gray again when he became aggressive over her taking money from the joint account but he pushed her violently against the fridge, leaving her stomach in agony.

Later, she was preparing to walk out, saying she couldn’t live like this but his sobs and excuses that he felt pushed out by how she was with her family made her embrace him as he begged for one last chance.

Later, while alone, a nervous Chantelle took a pregnancy test and discovered that she is carrying his baby. But, when tensions rise again and evil Gray lashes out once more, will she reveal the truth or will she conceal the fact that she is expecting a child?

Lucy haunts Bobby in EastEnders
(Picture: BBC)

Bobby Beale (Clay Milner Russell) is being driven to despair as his guilt and haunted memories over the death of his sister Lucy Beale bears down on him in EastEnders. Since being released from prison, Bobby has struggled to adapt to being home, particularly being in the room where he took his sister’s life with a music box.

He has previously seen visions of Lucy (Hetti Bywater) as her voice taunts him and viewers were once again spooked when he heard her tell him repeatedly that she would never forgive him before he then got a flashback to her frightened face, moments before her death.

The scene was triggered by another altercation with Rainie Branning (Tanya Franks), who can’t help but wind him up when she feels that she is being judged for her own past by him. Bobby was left horrified when he learned of theseedy history between Rainie and his dad Ian (Adam Woodyatt).

During one of Ian’s more troubled moments, he had ended up sleeping with Rainie, who was a sex worker during her drug addiction. As this sank in, Bobby lashed out and Ian blamed Rainie. Later, Rainie told Bobby that she can change and she will do everything she can to be a better person for Abi. She then asked if he would ever change.

Reminding him that he will always be known as the boy who killed his own sister, Rainie left Bobby with his dark thoughts, which is when Lucy came back to haunt him again. The voices and visions will get even worse across the week and Ian is left stunned when his son takes drastic action that could have extreme consequences.

As the true extent of Bobby’s troubles lead him to the edge of the precipice, can anyone save him from his demons?

Holby City review with spoilers: Does Ric have dementia?

Tired and under stress - but is that all? (Picture: BBC)
Tired and under stress – but is that all? (Picture: BBC)

In tonight’s Holby City we discovered what Ric Griffin (Hugh Quarshie) believes to be his problem. He’s worried that he might have dementia. Like Duffy in Casualty, he was looking up the symptoms on the internet, and because Duffy’s fears turned out to be real, it makes me think that Ric probably doesn’t have dementia at all. But there’s no doubt that there’s something wrong with him. He’s been making mistakes, confusing people’s names, forgetting the password to his computer and flying into rages at fairly minor things – and Lofty (Lee Mead), who is not a minor thing at all.

It’s true he’s under stress – Serena is away and so is Hanssen and also apparently anyone who could make the decision to redeploy one of the many doctors who lurk up on Darwin every week. He was under very specific pressure this week as his patient o’ the week was Mi Hi Tan (Hayley Lam), one of the conjoined twins he helped to separate in ground-breaking surgery in some memorable Holby episodes in 2008. Ric feels a moral responsibility for all his cases, but there’s a special place in his heart for the Tan family, who revere him so much they have a picture of him on their wall at home. It was also his 65th birthday, so there was a lot going on.

I hope whatever it is that’s wrong with Ric, one day he’ll be able to look back and see how much help and support he’s been getting from Zav (Marcus Griffiths), who knows something’s wrong and, until he can get Ric to admit it, has been watching out for him and particularly for his patients.

Confronting the pathetic creep (Picture: BBC)
Confronting the pathetic creep (Picture: BBC)

While Zav was watching out for Ric, Fletch (Alex Walkinshaw) was looking out for Chloe (Amy Lennox) and Ange (Dawn Steele) – though it seemed for a very worrying while that he’d been taken in by Evil Evan (Jack Ryder)’s wheedling ways. When Evan showed up at Holby, Fletch told Chloe he’d sent him packing, but then we saw Fletch and Evan enjoying a cosy drink and a bitch about the Godard women in Albie’s. What was Fletch playing at? Surely the King of Nurses couldn’t so easily be taken in? Well no, of course, he couldn’t. After ‘accidentally’ spilling a drink over Evan he took the opportunity (while Evan was away cleaning himself up) to have a look on his phone. Nobody on Holby ever bothers password-protecting their phone, so he very soon found the camera app and was able to see Chloe at home doing a bit of yoga. Thank heavens that’s all she was doing.

A swift phone call to Ange sent her to Chloe’s flat, where they found the camera. Ange and Chloe turned up at Albie’s so Chloe could call Evan a ‘pathetic creep,’ then the police arrived. Hopefully, this is the end of Evil Evan’s reign of terror, and Ange thanked Fletch for his excellent efforts with a kiss – so Chloe is safe and Flange are back on again.

Sacha meets Isla (Picture: BBC)
Sacha meets Isla (Picture: BBC)

When Essie (Kaye Wragg) turned up at work with baby Isla – because Frankie is AWOL ad the babysitter had a family emergency – everyone cheerfully assumed and accepted that her application to adopt had been confirmed and this was her new, legal, adopted daughter. Sacha (Bob Barrett) was particularly pleased because nothing makes him happier than when Essie is happy. Nobody seemed to think it was at all weird that Essie hadn’t mentioned this huge life development before, either, though she said she’d had the baby for a week. It’ll all end in tears, obviously.

Sue Haasler is the author of the official Holby City book, which you can read about here. Her latest novel, Half A World Away, is out now.

Mandy and Vinny argue in Emmerdale
(Picture: ITV)

Ever since Mandy Dingle (Lisa Riley) departed Emmerdale after her surprise reappearance earlier this year a big question has hung in the air – what was the real secret she was hiding?

She blew back into the village like a hurricane with a huge secret in tow, which appeared to be that Vinnie (Bradley Johnson) was Paddy Kirk’s (Dominic Brunt) teenage son. It later transpired that was not the case and she revealed that her ‘secret’ was that Bear was Paddy’s dad.

But as she and Vinnie drove away from the Woolpack, it became clear that Mandy hadn’t in fact actually given the big reveal at all and left the village with her secret still just that.

But now she’s back it’s time for it all to come spilling out that she’s been hiding a whopper from the family, one that could spell danger.

At Butler’s Farm, she and Vinnie are desperately searching for a bag and clearly up to no good. Chas susses something is up and walks in on their frantic searching, and she discovers them with a huge bag of stolen cash and casino chips. Chas blabs to the rest of the Dingles about what Mandy has been up to and they’re horrified – what has she got herself into?

Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) offers to help Mandy out in changing up the chips and the pair meet at the scrapyard to make the deal. Aaron chastises Mandy for what she’s done to the family and reveals he’s already taken a percentage of the dosh for his troubles.

Mandy hadn’t planned on giving any of her hoard away and she lashes out in rage. But as she does so he drops all of the money into a burning barrel nearby and she has to watch as her cash goes up in flames. Or does it?

It’s clear Aaron is up to something, has he somehow kept the cash for himself and Robert? If he has, could he now be playing his own dangerous game?

But the bigger question is who the heck has Mandy stolen the money from? No doubt whoever it is will be wanting it back and it’s unlikely that they’ll just politely ask. Are the Dingles about to be faced with fresh trouble all thanks to Mandy?

EastEnders spoilers: Honey Mitchell to kill Adam Bateman in shocking act of revenge?

Honey and Adam in EastEnders
(Picture: BBC)

Honey Mitchell (Emma Barton) has been turning a blind eye to Adam Bateman’s (Stephen Rahman-Hughes) affair with Habiba Ahmed (Rukku Nahar) in EastEnders as of late, but according to Executive Producer Jon Sen, she will soon take action against her cheating partner.

Following her split from Billy (Perry Fenwick), Honey thought she’d found the perfect man in Adam. He was kind, handsome and incredibly good with her children, but it soon came to light that there was more to Adam’s charming demeanour than meets the eye. For several months, he engaged in a steamy affair with Habiba, and made every effort to see her behind Honey’s back.

Word of Adam’s cheating behaviour spread around the Square, and both Billy and Lola (Danielle Harold) did their best to enlighten Honey — but to no avail. During Eid celebrations, it was clear that Honey had copped on to what her beau had been up to and yet she chose to ignore it, hoping that she could make it go away.

However, in spite of her attempts to hide from the truth, it seems that Honey will soon have enough of Adam and his cheating ways. Speaking to Metro.co.uk about what viewers have to look forward to, Jon said: ‘Honey’s relationship with Adam bubbles.’

It’s clear that there will be more tension between the couple over the coming months, but will Honey finally take action for all that Adam has put her through?

Jon continued: ‘She will take action. There is no doubt about it. She will take action.’

It’ll certainly be interesting to see what form of action Honey takes. Will she simply dump him? Or perhaps she’ll humiliate him for all the humiliation he’s inflicted upon her?

Or could she perhaps seek the ultimate revenge and kill him?

EastEnders star Danielle Harold
EastEnders actress Danielle Harold has revealed who she wants to see back in Albert Square (Picture: WireImage)

EastEnders has brought a number of classic characters back to Albert Square over the past few months. From Lisa Fowler (played by Lucy Benjamin) making her grand return in recent weeks to the gobby Bianca Jackson (Patsy Palmer), it seems that the BBC soap is open to the idea of reviving Walford legends from yesteryear.

Danielle Harold, who’s character Lola Pearce caused a storm when she made her way back with daughter Lexi earlier this year, revealed she’d like to see one person in particular back causing mayhem on the market.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk at the TV Choice Awards on Monday night, Danielle said she wants Fatboy back ‘because we never found out what happened to him.’

We’re fully backing her with this idea, this *needs* to happen.

Fatboy, played by Ricky Norwood, was last seen in Albert Square in 2015 when he was shoved into the boot of a car instead of Vincent Hubbard (Richard Blackwood) in a case of mistaken identity.

The vehicle was then crushed in a scrap yard, but viewers never got to see a body – and we all know what this means in soapland.

Danielle also teased high-drama around the corner with some big storylines for autumn.

‘We’ve got a lot coming up for the Mitchells,’ she told us. ‘There are lots of secrets about.’

She added that she’s over the moon to be back as Lola too, saying: ‘Coming back now is like coming home.

‘I just got stuck straight back in which was lovely and meeting the new cast has been great as well.’

EastEnders continues Thursday at 7.30pm on BBC One.

Coronation Street star Sair Khan has been seeing a hypnotherapist to deal with anxiety following the death of her mum last year. The star, known for her role as Alya Nazir and also her appearance on I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here! shared an emotional post on Instagram opening up about the sad loss.

Sair is currently taking part in the challenging Channel 4 show Sink of Swim for Stand Up To Cancer, in which celebrities who struggle in water attempt to swim the English Channel.

After the most recent episode aired, she shared an in depth post detailing her struggle and she added that her ‘whole body ached’.

She wrote: ‘My Mum died. It’s so hard for me to say those words without getting a lump in my throat. Let me tell you a thing or two about the lady I called Mama. She was strong and fierce and a little bit sassy.

‘You definitely wouldn’t mess with her. In primary school I desperately wanted my independence, the last thing I wanted was my mother walking me to school. I fought and argued with her and sometimes she let me set off alone and although I hardly ever looked back I always knew she was just a few steps behind me.

‘The protective lioness who would never let me come to harm. Beneath her toughness there was a love so pure. I didn’t admit it but I was scared and so thankful for her watching over me, I know she still is (sic).’

She added: ‘This year I have felt a loss so profound that my whole body has ached. I’ve cried enough tears to fill the English Channel. I’ve felt raw pain and I know I’m not the only one. I stand in solidarity with all of you who have lost a parent, a friend, or anyone that has shaped you into the person you are today.

‘I honour them and I honour my Mama … I’ve learnt to swim but I’m still learning to heal. Grief is a suspicious thing but the last two months of swimming have been a much-needed release. If you’re a non-swimmer and our show has sparked an interest then I encourage you to safely explore your curiosity because there are loved ones watching over us making sure we’re safe. (sic).’

These two are about to have quite an afternoon!

Mark Brennan (Scott McGregor) has been keeping Roxy Willis (Zima Anderson) as his naughty little secret, but they’re about to go public in the most embarrassing of ways in Neighbours when a sexy afternoon goes drastically wrong.

Things have been going well for these two, although as far as Mark is concerned they’re just having fun together and that no one needs to know.

Though Roxy is starting to catch feelings, she’s definitely enjoying things as much as he is.

But things could always be better, and Roxy decides the one thing they’re missing is a bit of kink. And who better to do that with than the local copper who already owns a uniform and a sturdy set of handcuffs.

It’s just the ticket to spice up their sesh.

It turns out to be a fun move for them both as they enjoy their steamy time together, and at the end of their sex session, Mark finds himself chained to the coffee table.

That’s quite an afternoon!

Has Roxy ruined everything for herself?

He needs to get to work though and asks Roxy to set him free.

But Roxy has a sinking realisation; she has no idea where the keys are. She turns the house upside down looking for them, but it’s no good, they’re lost.

How on Earth is Mark going to explain this one to his superiors as a reason for missing his shift? Roxy only has one suggestion – she has to ask Harlow (Jemma Donovan) to help.

Mark is horrified to learn Harlow knew about them all along and is even more embarrassed for her to see him in this state, but it’s the only way. Harlow suggests bolt cutters and knows Ned (Ben Hall) has some.

Roxy goes and sheepishly asks to borrow them, but Ned is intrigued to know why.

Mark is absolutely mortified when Ned suddenly appears just as the girls try to set him free – with his intrigue so piqued Ned decided to follow the girls back to the house.

Mark’s fuming at the state he’s found himself in and Roxy suddenly realises her raunchy move might just have cost her her relationship. Will Mark dump her for her sexcapades?

Scenes air from Monday 16th September at 1.45pm and 5.30pm on Channel 5.
