EastEnders fans have been heaping praise on Tamzin Outhwaite as her journey in the soap as tragic and long suffering Mel Owen reached a shocking and explosive end. With Mel left dead after Hunter’s voice caused her to step in front of a lorry before Sharon Mitchell’s (Letitia Dean) eyes, viewers reacted with dismay.
They had been led to believe that she would be okay as she was pulled out of the burning car by Sharon moments before it blew up. But Lisa Fowler’s (Lucy Benjamin) warning that Mel was suffering from psychosis proved to be founded as Mel continued to hear her late son’s voice in her head.
As Sharon begged Mel to end this, Mel was drawn across the road and a lorry couldn’t stop in time as her life was ended in the most brutal of fashion.
@mouthwaite you’re outstanding. Thank you for all the years of empowerment you’ve given us. I wish you every luck and happiness with all your future endeavors 💛

This is the saddest I’ve been at an #EastEnders exit since Ronnie and Peggy. What an awful mistake killing such a legendary character. Gutted and wish they had have gone down a different path. @mouthwaite thank you for being such an EE icon. We will miss you dearly xx

It brings to an end Tamzin’s time in the show after a dramatic second stint over the last two years. She has been central to huge storylines including the quest for the stolen gangster money, the troubles with Hunter, the death of Ray, the romance with Jack and the dramatic Queen Vic siege.
Fans have been praising Tamzin of late, especially during her vicious spats with Sharon, her heartbreaking grief at the loss of Hunter and the restoration of her friendship with Lisa.
The storyline will continue to develop from here as Lisa searches for answers and lays blame at Sharon’s door, accusing her of killing Mel to preserve the secret that her baby isn’t Phil’s (Steve McFadden).
With Lisa having blurted this out to Phil, will she be believed? And will Lisa determine to get revenge on Mel’s behalf and finish the revenge plot against the Mitchell that her best friend has started?
EastEnders will continue next week.
