It seems that no-one can arrive in Coronation Street without carrying some hefty baggage and a dark past and the fact that Paula Martin (Stirling Gallacher) is hiding some dark secrets is about to come to light when it becomes apparent that she knows human trafficer Jan Lozinsky (Piotr Baunmann). But has she been involved in helping the trafficking gang, who bring foreign youngsters over to work as slaves, with their legal loopholes? Or is she working on bringing them down?
As Eileen Grimshaw (Sue Cleaver) continues to suspect that something is amiss with her new boyfriend, she notices Paula clock him as they pass in the Street and there is a definite knowing glance between them. Eileen is bemused and when she later asks Paula about it, she gets flustered and denies knowing what Eileen is talking about, telling her she must have imagined it.
Not wanting to get involved with another villain after her ordeal at the hands of Pat Phelan, Eileen confides in Liz McDonald (Beverley Callard) about her fears and as Liz Googles Jan’s name, she makes a discovery about his criminal past, which she shares with her friend.
As Eileen sets out to confront Jan, has he been rumbled? And will the truth about his connection with Paula be exposed?
Later, as Seb Franklin (Harry Visinoni) continues to worry about the welfare of Alina Pop (Ruxandra Porojnicu), Jan intervenes and warns Seb that it is best for him to leave her alone as she obviously doesn’t want to be involved with him. He then pops to the salon to have a word with Alina, not without a hint of threat.
Future scenes will see Jan have to get rough with Seb as he gets closer to the truth but Eileen and Seb may not be the only ones about to make an unpleasant discovery about a loved one.
Is Sophie Webster (Brooke Vincent) about to discover the uncomfortable truth about Paula? Or is there more to all of this than meets the eye?
